Government should have been moving heaven and earth to keep schools open in a safe way from day 1. They haven't done that and it's kids who'll pay the price in the future. A rota of when each bubble/set of bubbles is in school and when they’re home learning so not all kids are in school at once. The government didn’t put a maximum number on how many kids/teachers can be in a bubble by the way. I agree with your last point. Loads of money has been thrown at putting laptops, internet sticks and tablets into school but it’s still not enough.
On the subject of masks, the government 'frittered' away tens if not hundreds of millions of yours and mine on masks deemed not suitable for use in a medical environment. These masks are in a warehouse waiting to be incinerated. Should they not be being delivered to every school in this country. Infact, anywhere that can take them and distribute them. We paid for them...
It’s crazy not doing something before people return to work with kids going back to school and nurseries ect. Look how long it took to get things back under control in the first wave and that was with a less contagious strain. Boils my pizz beyond belief that this government makes the same mistakes over and over. I’d have lost my job through sheer negligence if I kept doing things repeatedly wrong. Whilst I appreciate the public plays a big part in preventing the spread we need extremely strong leadership right now who make sound decisions quickly. Tomorrow's going to be an absolute mess.
Your last point is bang on I happened to have a chat with someone from a college recently and the ability for kids to get online is a real issue. Easily resolved though if money was thrown at it. laptops needed etc, but the big issue is not having unlimited broadband. So they can get online, but only for short periods, or for important stuff (like posting on here) From what I’d heard the IT promised by Govt never arrived in the quantities promised, but that was only heresay

To be honest around March through to May you would be lucky to get a laptop at all for general office / business use , suppliers couldnt keep up with demand worldwide and we ended up selling desktop PC setups that our clients bought their employees to work from home with as was the rush back then
True The broadband issue could have been sorted though. One big deal for homes with kids being schooled from home should have been good value at that scale.
It was a general chat mate, but thanks. I don’t know the kids involved, and I think they were trying to resolve it, I was just making the point that it was a bigger issue than what I thought I’m sure they said about 40% of kids in some schools had limited broadband if any. Really kind offer though

They could have easily got onto mobile network providers and got them to remove data caps from contracts for a period of time , nice easy way of solving it without hardware (in most cases) and people could have tethered or hot spotted from a mobile in the house
May be both, but that’s the point isn’t it. We don’t know, because it’s not the field we work in, but some people do know and up to a few weeks ago it still hadn’t been resolved.

Funny old thing this language of ours. So many interpretations are possible - especially on a forum which is essentially non-interactive for a debate-like conversation. I have no political agenda here at all. Has there been perceived indecision at all during this plague over the last 10-12 months by those in power? Has that impacted progress in any way? If so, is this not information (hindsight knowledge) the protagonist has as ammunition? Perhaps to expedite, accelerate progress. From what I've read, and observed on BBC TV news & other current affairs programs, the complexity of this pandemic is a major challenge for all in the government and support systems - NHS etc. Same the world over. In many ways, the"expert" input - scientific and economic - is divided. That makes the governing bodies even more confused. Hindsight (knowledge) is not the be all and end all in problem solving, and doesn't at all mean someone knows something before others do/did. It's part of the feedback process into problem solving by eliminating blind alleys and incorporating promising directions. Long winded DBT - I apologise. The government bought 200,000 laptops and tens of thousands of 4G routers in June, presumably they'll have distributed them by now. EE, Three, Sky, Smarty, Tesco and Virgin are all giving free data to those who need help with access for home schooling.
