Good Morning. It's Wednesday 30th December, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

    Five star display silences critics

Leeds rose to 11th in the table, (three points from 5th place) after a masterclass performance at the Hawthorns last night. Two of the most recognisable managers in English football came head to head for the first time, both deciding to stick to the same starting XI, four days earlier when Leeds edged past Burnley and the Baggies held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw.

Former Leeds target Romaine Sawyers opened the scoring, by bizarrely passing back to his keeper from 25 yards without checking he was there! He wasn't, and the floodgates were about to open.

Three goal in 10 minutes from Alioski, Harrison and Rodrigo put the game beyond the Baggies reach as big Sam must have been having second thoughts about the challenge in front of him.

Leeds took their foot of the pedal in the second half, but not before Raphinho showed his Brazilian class by curling a shot into the far corner from 20 yards.

In what order would you put the top three goals from last night?

Leeds have now won 7, lost 7, and drawn twice. They have scored as many as they have conceded - 30. Only Liverpool, Manchester Utd and Chelsea have scored more goals. Coincidentally, Leeds have shipped a total of 13 goals to these three sides this season, almost half of the the total amount conceded.

Leeds are a point better off than Sheffield Utd at this point last season! The Blades have yet to win a game this season, and after losing to Burnley last night, surely Chris Wilders days are numbered?

Amazon Prime pundit Karen Carney - I actually think they (Leeds) got promoted because of Covid

Amazon Prime Video Sport pundit Karen Carney tried to make a name for herself last night by claiming Leeds would have burnout issues, come the end of the season. She also insinuated that the Whites would not have got promoted to the Premier League, if it hadn't been for Covid, and the three month break.

"They outrun everyone and credit to them," the former England international said following the 5-0 thrashing. "My only concern would be is will they blow up at the end of the season? We saw that the last couple of seasons.

"I actually think they got promoted because of Covid in terms of it gave them a bit of respite. I don't know if they would have got up if they didn't have that break. "

Her comments were met with a barrage of angry Leeds fans. Even Ben White highlighted her post on twitter, sending three laughing face emoji pictures!

18 positives in latest Premier League Covid-19 testing

A total of 1,479 players and club staff members were tested between December 21-27; 18 have now come back positive. We have seen Manchester City postpone their game against Everton earlier in the week There are now severe doubts whether tonight's fixture Tottenham vs Fulham should go ahead after new multiple corona cases were discovered in both camps.

Can football survive during this pandemic? Should there be a break in the season, until the deadly disease is more under control?

Its been mentioned plenty of times but needs saying again: over half the goals Leeds have conceded have come against top 6 teams. To do that against us they need to produce energy levels that match ours and then the difference in player quality shows. We only have one player who would get into a top 6 team, so the only way we can beat them is by outperforming them on energy and playing as a team. If they match us they should win, if they dont they will get slapped.

Lets hope for a good performance at Spurs but if we get beat its because Jose’ got them working hard to match us and then player quality counted. If we get beat its no big worry because we are not expected to beat a top 6 side. Anything we get from this game is a massive bonus.

i enjoyed the comment in the OP about 2 ost recognisable managers in the Prem. They were both International managers and Bielsa did great things for Argentina and made Chile a world football power. Big Sam got caught taking a bung <laugh>

    Morning all.

    Outstanding team performance last night.

However most talk has been focused once again on the stupid views of an ex pro who is now stealing a living as a pundit.

During the first half of the game while listening to the commentary, and going back to Sundays game, the thought actually occurred to me how poor the level of commentary and punditry is these days. This is one of the prices to be paid for the blankety coverage we have these days.

When there was only a limited amount of games shown on tv Sky/Bt could be picky with who they used. Now they have so many spaces to fill they have to be less choosy.

Take Sky on Sunday. 4 games one after the other means that us v Burnley, arguably one of the less blockbuster games of the day, were stuck with a commentary team normally used in the championship and that shone through.

The same problem is happening with pundits, not helped by the new need to tick boxes and fill spots with female or black pundits. This takes us back to last night

Too many of these B level commentators/pundits are not up to task and rather than researching and preparing properly after proper training just repeat the same tired soundbites others have used or they have read on social media. Many of these opinions could be talked down by most Leeds/football fans on here or even twitter.

(For what it is worth I do not believe that Carney thinks we only got promoted because of covid. I believe she meant to say that the break helped us. Due to her lack of experience or training she phrased the way she did which has opened a can of worms and has drawn our owner into an argument and no doubt will see Bielsa questioned about it.)

    Morning all.

Great result and performance so this morning I’ll not say anything negative about the starting 11 they all did their bit.

Karen Carney was full of typical cliche comments about Leeds. It’s just the way TV companies are going, ignore the 20 best qualified, we need three presenters, one has to be black and one a female.

Ten years from now we’ll be needing 5 as there will not be enough gender neutral or midgets.

Karen also said Leeds might have a job holding on to Harrison she can see Man City calling him back, she did zero homework on the two teams.

Good morning. What a fantastic game.

I'm glad we're finally seeing pundits being called out for not knowing what they're talking about. I don't think there's anything wrong with the club pointing that out in a tongue in cheek kinda way but some of the pile on from the twitter knuckle draggers was unnecessary. For what it's worth, I think Karen does actually try to give some analysis rather than Agbonglahor or Adrian Durham who are both just saying ridiculous things to stay relevant.

Covid infections were already rising before Christmas and I think January will be a really difficult month with severe restrictions. All the testing in professional sports means it's not so much a safety issue for them to play like it was last season, but it might be a practicality issue if positive tests increase. I wouldn't be surprised if the government put a short stop to football if they feel people are no longer taking lockdown rules seriously and need it to back up their point.

Since i'm sure everyone else will cover the positives i'm going to be a negative Nancy and say that Meslier wasn't always convincing, although arguably him flapping a clearance is better than the opposition getting a free header from every corner like before. Klich's passing left a lot to be desired but i'm sure he'll get his confidence back eventually and in the mean time I wouldn't mind seeing Shackleton get more minutes anyway.

Morning all. The best goalkeepers are the ones who make the fewest mistakes.Meslier has got the talent and the courage he is now gaining experience which will reduce reduce his errors. If he continues to improve I think he will be one of the best.

Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani has defended a club tweet criticising pundit Karen Carney for her claim that they were only promoted to the Premier League “because of Covid”.

Former England Women’s international Carney, who won 144 caps, said during Amazon Prime Sport’s coverage of Leeds’ 5-0 win at West Brom on Tuesday that Marcelo Bielsa’s side benefited from the coronavirus break in March to win the Sky Bet Championship title.

Leeds responded on Twitter by poking fun at Carney’s comments, provoking a backlash from some fans who felt that it would encourage online abuse to be directed at her.

Radrizzani, replying to a tweet which said Leeds should be “ashamed” of their actions, wrote: “I take the responsibility of the club tweet.

“I consider that comment (from Carney) completely unnecessary and disrespectful to our club and particularly to the fantastic hard work of our players and coaches whom were understanding on the pitch for the last two Championship seasons by all stats.”

Radrizzani was supported by Brighton defender Ben White, who was an ever-present on loan at Leeds last season when Bielsa’s side claimed 93 points from 46 games to finish 10 points clear of second-placed West Brom.

White posted three face with tears emojis and current Leeds player Mateusz Klich also used emojis to show disgust at Carney’s comments.

But former Leeds defender Rio Ferdinand responded to a tweet criticising the Yorkshire club, which had said it was a “disgrace” and that it was “trying to embarrass a hard working pundit who will now be subject to vile abuse from LUFC fans”.

No Rio, the woman has no credibility, so no further comment needed.

Agree about Meslier, he's learning all the time and I'm sure he will start to command his box even better as we move forward. Pointless comment about Leeds not getting promoted if Covid hadn't arrived, she may as well have said there are aliens living on a distant planet because we'll never know. As for Wilder and Sheff Utd, I remember after they got promoted and the premier league darts was on in Sheffield. The fans spent the whole night singing "Leeds have fallen apart again". I couldn't believe it, they were in the PL and all they could sing about was Leeds. I truly hope they get less than 10 points this season.

    Karen Carney - Pundit:
You wanted the job which paid you to air your views. Plenty of people disagree with your views but you picked up your pay cheque so own you’re mistakes and learn. If you want to be rent-a-gob for money expect to get battered when you talk bollox. If you want to start screaming about sex discrimination just comment on ladies football and leave the mens game to male ex pros. Its a different game anyway ffs.. plenty of people on here call me out when I talk **** and I don't get paid.....

This time last year we Leeds fans were dreaming about promotion and playing in the Premier League. Promotion would be great but how would we manage to compete? We all had worries about getting slugged by teams who had been in the Prem for years, we knew we couldnt compete with the billionaires and of course we worried about being relegated.

Our club from owner down to Bielsa planned everything perfect. We spent sensible money and bought wisely (Even though we wait for Llorente) Radz and Orta and the coaches and players gave us the foundations for a season to be proud of.

7 wins and 2 draws sees us on 23 points which is closer to the top than to the bottom. We sit mid-table with 22 games to go. We have already played Liverpool, Man City Man Utd, Leicester and we had the bonus of taking a point from City. Clubs at the bottom haven't played 4 of the top 6 yet. We play a 5th team from the top 6 this weekend

we sit 2 points above Wolves and 3 points above Arsenal and are only about a dozen points away from safety already. With this squad we are doing a fantastic job and I fully expect us to stay up and next Summer see another influx of top players to enhance our squad and to guarantee safety again next season.

2021 will be a fantastic year for Leeds Utd just as 2020 was

My views following last night's game :

    Order of goals:

1 raphinha great build up and what a finish. Richards said worthy of goal of the season.
2 Harrison again great team work excellent assist by Bamford and great skill by Harrison with an excellent finish.
3 alioski a screamer... the goal that is.

If I wanted to be picky I would say that our crosses leave a lot to be desired at times. Alioski probably main culprit.

I am a fan of meslier but what the **** was he doing playing the ball straight to West brom in our box. Luckily he redeemed himself by making two saves.

As for carney comments that was just a bollox thing to say but so what, we did win the championship easily and we got promoted so who gives **** what she thinks.

The last 4 games have pretty much met my expectations of 3 wins so happy with that. Not expecting to win at spurs so any points will be a bonus.

The standards of the commentary and the pundits Sky/BT and Amazon drag out is laughable, they would be better off getting a couple of pissed up old soaks to talk about the game (DM me for my details<cheers>) since lockdown and being forced to watch every game on TV or online my patience for these jokers has evaporated, as soon as it is half time I go for a piss and to get a drink and do a couple of odd jobs until the second half starts and as soon as the game is over I turn over/switch off.

The Meslier arguments come from the way he is put under pressure from his own defenders. We really need to stop the bollox of playing out from the back 100% of the time. You cannot di that when you are being pressed. If you are facing opposition players on the edge of your box or man for man just outside, then the keeper or defenders need to launch the ball upfield. Simple. Frigging about can be a disaster. Yes play it out from the back as much as you can but only when its on to do.

I don't listen to most of these so called pundits anyway, unless there is an ex whites player on board. I've no problem with females in the game, but I do think they should stick to commentating on female sports, now if that's sounding like a sexist comment I don't care, it's not intended to be. Great result last night, yes we will always give sides a chance to score, but that's the nature of the beast. Another 6 wins and we should be safe.<ok>

It's because they can't stand the brilliant football we play, they need something to beat us with. In the past we were called a racist club, now it's the sexist card. When will it be ok to say something that goes against the grain without getting a label put on it.<ok>
