Northampton are not on a good run, in the league they have scored only 16 goals whilst conceding 35, so I am expecting a win. Their only win in December was against Exeter in a cup game, more than we could do.
with so many covid cancelled games, I've held off until the last minute before paying for this one tonight, it's now all payed for and just waiting for the kick off.
So far it's a typical Northampton performance, big players going route 1, trouble is it seems to be unsettling us.
And that is why 1 I'll never get anywhere near winning the prediction league 2 It is a recipe for disaster if this team gets anywhere near the Championship
Thanks grumpygit - for reminding me that I haven't woken after a bad dream ! Evans has said that he wasn't happy about the effort that some Gills players made ( or didn't .) - But, Evans doesn't have to pay to watch the crap that I witnessed last night. I am furious with O'Gilvie for the needless challenge for the penalty..... mind you, it didn't help that he had to go to the right hand side to cover for Jackson.. Where the hell was he ? For the first and second goals, Jackson was well out of position - and, yet again, he GAVE UP when trying to 'stroll' back - he got so far - then just stopped ! ( BOTH times. ) THAT is NOT acceptable. ...... and, as for O'Gilvie - is it any wonder that we struggle we we have him given the responsibility of looking after the left side of our defence? He is not good enough. I have previously stated that I can forgive the lack of ability in our squad - but -i cannot excuse the lack of effort - and neither should Evans. If players like Jackson can't be bothered, then Evans needs to try one of the youngsters - I'm sure that they'd not stop running.---- and nobody will tell me that it would be worse than what I saw last night...... and I'll need persuading not to watch Crystal Palace v Sheffield Utd on Saturday, instead of wasting another £10 on ifollow.... and I'm getting sorely tempted to join the elite few fans who have dared to say that they want their season ticket money refunded - and shove the 'free' ifollow HOME games down the toilet - because that's exactly where the effort from Jackson belongs...... ..... Happy New Year everyone !
Don't worry Tim, this team has no chance of getting anywhere near the Championship. The best we can hopefully aspire to is mediocrity.
I didn't watch the game last night, but then I've not really shared the optimism after the performance of the previous game(s). Other personal factors also take priority. I'm hoping to see the game on Saturday, unless covid or our government decide otherwise. However, my current view on the team is that we have achieved more than I expected us to, at near the halfway stage in the season of covid 2020. Before the season started, I was expecting relegation. Those thoughts were built up on seeing the financial destruction and consequences of a World pandemic. Our club only needs to perform as good or as bad, dependent on your view, as it has already and we will be safe from relegation, that in itself helps give the club some hope of financial security, more than a drop to L2 would bring. I'm not bigging anything up, I'm not suggesting things will not get worse on the pitch, or that I will not blow a gasket again at the way my team perform. But what I am saying is Evans with Scally's limited resources but support, has achieved a team that is better than those below us, as league position dictates.
brb - my 'gasket-blowing' exploits might seem a little sad to people --- who might even accuse me of 'negativity' when I complain on so many occasions. Each of my accusers are entitled to their opinion ( just as I am .) I do not post my negativity because I enjoy doing so - but because I am given so many occasions in which only negativity is the honest thing to express. I have made positive statements about our performances - but have not been given many opportunities to heap praise. Maybe I should avoid watching the games - if all I am going to do is blow a gasket..... it certainly would be better for my health - as well as my pocket ! - but - I simply cannot. Following The Gills has become a way of life. Every game starts with my support for the team- despite the rubbish of the previous game. And if the previous game was an emphatic win, my expectation levels ( of a repetition ), are not increased! ...... However, my expectation of 100% effort from all the players, has never diminished - just like the 100% effort of my support..... I do not belittle your effort, or that of other Gills fans - I blow a gasket because that is the only way that I can show that I care about The Gills.
Unfortunately our team is set-up for wingbacks, that system against a big, physical, route 1 team only works if the defensive midfielders drop back to cover the gaps, otherwise our wingbacks are always going to get caught out of position.
