While watching the telly, steer clear of these

    Equus Dancer 1330
    The Cob 1405
    Manofthemountain 1440
    Does He Know 1515
    Shanacoole Prince 1545

Why is the BBC suddenly featuring racing on sports news features? Is it feeling sorry for itself or is it just Hollie and Bryony?

Another poor renewal of the Challow - with all this talk of there being too many Grade 1s, I am amazed that this race has clung on to that status.

How do you know it’s a poor renewal?

Maybe it's the fact that Hollie Doyle finished 3rd in the BBC televised Sports Personality of the Year Awards that has prompted them in to action. I suspect it is also a bit of the 'ladies doing every so well' in a male dominated sport that has also made them ramp up (for them) the coverage. Its very PC to trumpet and make a big song and dance about these sort of things nowadays.

    Hi all,

Focusing on Newbury today with these bets:
Newbury 2.05pm Good Man Pat 6/1 win. Has been running in better races than this, soft ground will suit and has dropped down to a handy mark.
Newbury 2.40pm Manofthemountain 15/2 each way 4 places. Ben Jones takes 3lbs off and gets on well with this fella having won twice on him. Think this horse has quite a bit of class.
Newbury 3.15pm Wilde About Oscar 7/1 each way. A lot to like about his last performance and can continue the good run of form for the Skeltons.

    Good luck all! :emoticon-0167-beer:

All about STAR GATE for me today in the Challow Hurdle.
Was a very impressive winner at Sandown, will like the ground and I expect it to win.

Multiple Cheltenham festival winners in action at Leopardstown and CONCERTISTA and MONKFISH are worthy favourites.
The 2.25 looks to have a lot more depth though. Saint Roi looks a bit short but I will stick with another couple of Mullins runners - SHARJAH and the returning SALDIER.

The Skeltons are having a great week and can round things off with KING D'ARGENT in the last at Newbury.

    1. Only 6 runners - where are the representatives of Henderson, Twiston-Davis, Hobbs, Tizzard? Little depth in the race.
    2. The mare was held back for a second crack at the Champion Bumper where she (again) struggled against the opposite sex. I was going to use the word "exposed" but she has had only 1 run over hurdles I suppose.
    3. The ones with official ratings are perched pretty high on what they have achieved (IMHO).

Looks poor on paper (certainly not worthy of Grade 1 status) but I'd happily see a superstar come out of it.

2009 was the last year we had a double figure field size. Name me a horse from any of those yards that would enhance the race? You have the winner of 12 races this season in the field, you have three horses already rated 140+ and you have Star Gate who is unbeaten and looked very progressive last time out. You also have a horse who has shown plenty from the Paul Nicholls yard.

I think it is a decent field on paper, much like we always see in this race. The race has thrown up Thyme Hill and Champ from small fields in last two seasons, showing that its a very decent novice hurdle that is worth its graded status.

    Doncaster

    13,45 Midnightreferendum 13/2
    14,20 Coole Well 9/2

    Limerick
    13,05 Rock On Barney 4/1
    14,15 Boomtown Girl 5/2
    14,50 Oneknightmoreihope 10/3

And looking very closely to Hollow Games at Leopardstown.

Don't mind me I'm just being a miserable twat, it is just a race I have never warmed to. Maybe it is Newbury, with its home straight that goes on and on and on and on .................. don't really like tracks like that (Doncaster, Haydock, Aintree also not among my favs).

That Concertista is a big old girl - if she were human she'd be working in a Barnsley chippy <ok>

Decent renewal of the Matheson Hurdle next up and a number of these have met already with Aspire Tower (somewhat surprisingly) winning at Down Royal and then Abacadabras taking the Morgiana from Saint Roi. The one I like is Saldier who came from a long lay-off last season to take the Morgiana.
