Feels like a bit too much change there, unsure it was that necessary but we shall see, I suspect the big guns will be required off the bench at some point..
Few years ago and I would agree ... but that team cost a fair old wedge to put together and should be competitive ...
Fofana isn't even on the bench - hope the lad is just been given a rest and there isn't any other issues.
Hopefully, some rotation was definitely needed, would have liked Ndidi or Tielemans in, Vardy I think we could do more damage by playing him again so fair enough. I thought Rodgers had said Soyuncu would be available for one game so thought he might have started today. Not had a chance to look yet what Palace have made in terms of changes either.
Looks like Palace have made very minimal changes which is interesting. I think our best bet here may be to try and keep it tight first half and try to go in not behind and hopefully hit them second half when they tire and we bring some first teamers on.
Sore knee ... but he's been playing with that so a welcome rest ... hope Amartey comes through OK ... quality centre back when at his best ...
What an awful pen, get in the bin Nacho! Trying to be clever with his run up and probably second only to Kermit in the bad pen stakes! Perez should have taken it..
Should be ahead, poor finishing to blame. The wide players have been very good particularly Justin and Perez on the right. For all their qualities and strengths in other areas and all being good players, I think in Evans, Mendy and Choudhury we have far too many on that only seem to pass sideways and backwards. Tielemans on for either of the mids would be good. As for Nacho, poor again, Tielemans and Vardy in this game and we’d be comfortable not least because they can both take an excellent pen.
Palace are in poor form and we were on top - no surprise that we have **** the bed and conceded. As usual, we are reliant on Vardy to save us - we are really buggered if anything happens to him. Ihneacho has been given enough chances - we should try Perez up front if Vardy needs a rest.
Got to be happy with a point in the context of how the game went. I think we just need to accept that under Rodgers we will be very inconsistent as he hasn’t got a winners mentality in a league that matters so our limitation is probably such as last season if other clubs under perform and give us the chance. With Everton, Villa and Southampton looking so good I think top 10 would be acceptable this season but ideally 6th or 7th.
Another game where we should have been out of sight at half time. When will we learn? I thought Amartey had an excellent game today. When everyone is fit, Brenda is going to have one hell of a defensive headache. Another great finish from Barnes. He’s making a big step up this season.
2 points thrown away ... Iheanacho had a mare ... and why the **** was Gray taking that late free kick? ... Tielemans has been scoring from there for Belgium ... penalty was pathetic ... put your laces through it and if the keeper saves it fair enough ... but a stuttered run up is tantamount to cheating in my book and should be outlawed ...
Confirmed what we have all known for some time, Iheanacho is not going to take over from Vardy. With funds limited whatever transfer kitty we have in Jan and the summer needs to go into finding another striker who can score. An opportunity for Gray to put himself in the shop window but not taken. Its a pity as that was 2 points dropped but a bit more experience for Thomas, who did nothing wrong and Hamza. Thought we also got away with an Amarty handball.
Awful result yesterday. After the win away at Spurs got us up to second but then dropping 2 points on Saturday, yesterday was a must win game to keep us up there. And yet again we blew it against a team that had the worst record over the last 2 games. I didn't see the match but gather we had enough chances to win it. But once we were only level at half time after dominating and missing a penalty, alarm bells should have been ringing. When you look at the team that was on the pitch at the end, you have to wonder where the manager thought the creativity was going to come from to enable us to win the match? We don't play again until Sunday, so why couldn't Maddison have played half an hour? And Praet was taken off yet again. What is it with Rodgers always taking Praet off? And playing Gray? As much as I sympathise with the lad's treatment here, how much incentive is there for him when he's already been told he isn't good enough? As for Iheanacho, I agree it is time to show him the exit. He performs well against lower league opposition but he can't cut it in the Prem. Get something for him while he still has age on his side and look for a credible long term replacement for Vardy. The big concern for me is that, if we fall short yet again this season, some of our top players will start looking at the manager and thinking they're never going to win anything meaningful under him and look for a way out.
Gonna give a shout out to Ayoze Perez ... his work rate and closing down was first class yesterday and he was by far the most inventive of the starting XI ... should also remember his contribution against United for the second goal and in general... lad seems fired up and motivated.
Hopefully it will be a full strength team this afternoon, before resting a few for the cup at Stoke next week. 3 points today and a Chelsea v Man City draw would make it a perfect Sunday
This is the sort of game we've been losing, so I think the result today will show whether we're a likely top 4 candidate come the end of the season or not..
