Pathetic performance and we got what we deserved. Trent, Salah and the whole midfield were abysmal. I believe we only had two shots on target all game which is god awful. Zero creativity from the midfield and Trent, which meant we were reliant on the front 3 to create something out of nothing. And ffs, please can we just stop doing those stupid deep crosses from the right hand side? They’re such low percentage balls and rarely work.
The referee gave us nothing, he gave it all to them. They committed a fair few fouls that were overlooked. Klopp argues and guess what, he gets a yellow card; and when I say VAR had a poor game that's what I meant: I don't think it was even working
The annoying thing is we'll 'learn' like we always do, come out, smash the next opponents into landfill, like we did after Fulham, when we played Palace, and the match after that, we'll put on the complacency kit again, depending on who's next. If it's one of the top six we might step up a gear. But the pattern of complacency is so annoying. In the first half we could have put it to bed in the first 20 minutes; Mane and Salah went close a few times. After Mane's goal it was, 'We've won.' How many times have we said it's never enough? Really pissed it up the wall.
Im not sure if it was a case of just sitting back on the lead. We had plenty of possession and got into good areas but we literally had no ideas on how to break them down. Jones is a good player but does he have the creative pass in him? Gini was anonymous and Hendo was forcing the issue and resorted to low percentage balls. Very frustrating but it is what it is. We need to move on and hopefully we get our more creative players back soon
I’m a bit confused as to why some are blaming the ref. Do people expect there to be no tactical fouls? I saw one big error - the one Klopp got so angry about, but it wasn’t a big deal. We had our goal, they were of little threat - all we had to do was contain them. We played poorly in the second half and that’s that. West Brom were good for their draw and could have even won it. We are still top of the table, which all things considered, is a small miracle in itself.
In 18/19 we dropped 6 points after scoring the first goal in the season. In 19/20 we dropped 5 points in the season after scoring first. (The 5 points came in the last 4 games of the season). So far this season we have dropped 8 points after scoring first.
Becoming a trend these results... I know we’re missing some creative players but we have more than enough to win these games. It seems the games considered a ‘test’ we get through and really turn it on, then the games we’re expected to win comfortably we draw 1-1 Pretty pissed off, it’s great that we’re top but we could be miles ahead if we were more ruthless this season. Agree with those deep crosses, still trying it after 92 minutes of it not working Frustrating
I thought their goal was offside. I've watched it several times and I can't see any argument for it being onside. What have I missed? Salah and Mané continue to be manhandled. That said, the result was a fair reflection of the game but so frustrating seeing every decision going to the opposition. The crowd even cheered with the one he did finally give us. Still top
To me it seemed we were always looking for the perfect pass, and wouldn't just hammer in dangerous balls into the box for some ricochet. Mane Salah and Bobby stopped making runs towards the end of the first half and through the second because no balls were being played in. Architects of our own demise, WBA are a team that makes mistakes so it makes sense that you put as many balls into the danger areas as possible. We had no one going for the second balls when we crossed it in, there was a big gap, front line all square and back to goal, and the midfield clustered around on the corners of the 18 box, with almost no one central to pick up cleared headers in and around the 18 centrally. We persisted in doing this pattern and they adapted as you do when facing a repetitive unchanging tactic, and they were able to hit us on the break and really should have scored one of those chances before the header. My only real gripe here is, this was all patently obvious and Klopp did nothing to change it. I don;t doubt we'd have won this game if we just kept pelting fast balls into that box without any real accuracy as they will make mistakes, and we let them off by not forcing them to
Mané was being manhandled all the time by Furlong (mostly) - but I wouldn't call it a major factor in the game, this type of foul is all over the place at the moment. Because of VAR you can't get away with the slightest contact with the legs, but upper body grappling is still disregarded unless it's a blatant haul-down . In the end, it was one of those games we always struggle with - a packed defence in the first half took the sting out of our play and we couldn't get it back. It's always the same - sometimes we manage to break it down, sometimes we don't.
It felt a bit like once we had the lead we expected them to start making mistakes to give us chances rather than us creating them as we had been doing .
The system is built on using stills. They stop the video to check armpits, toes, sleeves and to draw lines. No decision is reached using real time play.
Not sure who you think was offside? The guy that scored? He was about a yard behind Fabinho when ball came in so wasn’t anywhere near offside.
