Fair enough Saint. Bit of a **** one but as you say, hopefully sacrifice this one Christmas to enjoy 2021 a lot more. Fingers crossed lot more people take your outlook but fear you might be in the minority.
I'd like to see my parents, but yeah, I prefer small Christmases. Used to go see my parents on Boxing Day but theyre both high risk so not going to see them until the virus goes away or everyone is vaccinated.
Makes sense. Tbf it’s prob better when you have kids anyway as it’s all about them etc. Only thing in ‘worried’ about us as it’s just two of us making sure it doesn’t just drift into any other Sunday in lockdown where sit down, do nothing have done dinner etc. I know in comparison to millions it’s not really a big deal, but just got to try best to make it feel somewhat of a special day without seeing people irl
I never met anyone religious in the UK who were aggressively religious like some of the people I've met in America. Most religious people in America are very nice and use religion "for good". There are lots of really crazy people here though. One woman told me that I cant really be agnostic because everyone believes in God and that I only deny God exists because I hate him and have made a pact with Satan. That's what her church told her. There's no such thing as an atheist or agnostic... We all believe in God really, we just hate him.
No, as funny as that would have been, I shrugged it off. It was outside the room waiting for kids ballet classes to finish so didn't want to make a scene.
That's hilarious ....................religion is an illness for some people, they are not at all well
I try and take the live and let live approach. I am a product of a Catholic upbringing which brings with it a constant supply of guilt but also concern for my fellow humans .. and dogs .. not sure about cats
My live and let live approach applies to them as well. They can live happy, fulfilled lives wherever they want as long as it's not with me.
I had a Catholic upbringing too, but I'm afraid I lost it all by the time I was 15 or so. Though I still adhere to what would loosely be called "christian" values, I don't believe that any faith has the right to claim exclusive connection to, or favour from, its god or gods. I have no problem with the majority of believers of any faith who, like you, clearly have a caring attitude to others. However, if there is a Hell, I'm sure it'll be populated by all those who see fit to murder and destroy those who don't share their beliefs. Christianity in this country tends to be relatively mild and tolerant, but as Milk says there are some alarmingly extreme Christian sects (mostly) in the US, and I think the recent proliferation of global social media is giving it more of a foothold over here.
Growing up my parents never mentioned religion. It just wasn't part of our house. Not good, not bad, just wasn't mentioned. Any religion I heard about was at school with the assembly hymns and occasional class trip to the church. Moving to America, I guess because so much religion here (especially where we are) the first thing anyone asks is "what church do you go to), I normally dodge the question as best I can, (admitting to not being christian can lead to discrimination.) My parents though have turned into rabid atheists. They embarrass me at times with their anti-religion. They were never like that when we were kids, they just ignored religion. They offended my wife several times early on (she was raised christian of course)... Funny thing is, she's become quite anti-religion as she has got older too... She still, I think, believes in a god, but she hates churches and organized religion now. Her family, I suspect, blames me for her not going to church anymore, but I've never deliberately influenced her beliefs... What killed her was working for a Presbyterian Church for a few years and experiencing a lot of hypocrisy going on in her church's organization.
Extremism in any form isn't a good thing. When it's linked to religion it goes against the very principles that most religions are based on. I like to think my Christian upbringing has made me a better person but I can't go back and try a non-religious upbringing to see if the outcome would have been any different. I just wish people could get on better. The recent rise in identity politics is very worrying. Like you say social media has a lot to answer for.

well since i got dragged back in.... i have a couple of queries.... There were some contentious where i'd say were 50/50s but i am interested from who this source is. For example, most of those against were offsides which is debateable whether it is subjective (some are like offside armpits) but half of them were legitimately and clearly offside by like a toe. Not sure why that's counting as against
I'm always wary of statistics, and take little notice. All I know from watching all of our matches is that some have gone our way and some haven't. The claim that we were somehow benefiting more often than not was clearly just a manifestation of fan rivalry. We've had quite of few of those gnat's nudger decisions go against us.
