Some good new, my Southampton supporting friends. Portsmouth is in Tier 4, the last time we were in Tier 4, we won the league. History repeating?

We are in a serious situation and it is sad that we can't do everything we want, but, compared to what else is happening, that is all it is....a bit sad. Have little patience with people thinking that drinking is important....there are lots of other days to destroy your liver. Give your kids a nice time and remember to check in with relatives and friends who may be lonely....I believe there is something recently invented called the telephone. I will be able to visit my son, but, if I couldn't, I'd suck it up....because I'm an adult.

Yes, I am pissed off with what people moan about when people are sick and dying...and we are trying to get on top of a pandemic.

I hope the independent shop owners who have just been ordered to close their businesses from midnight, and miss the busiest week of the year, are happy to suck it up.

I think being told on the 19th December to cancel the plans you were encouraged to make until very recently, probably rankles a lot more than not having a drink.

Makes no difference to me, I’m in Tier 4 so it’ll just be me and my son, and I’m fine with that - bit boring for him though. But this is a huge kick in the guts for lots of people for all sorts of reasons, and I think it’s been appallingly mishandled.

Boris Johnson can literally go and **** himself. He is an incompetent buffoon who is making a right dog's meal of this pandemic.

Given how **** my year has been, especially the last couple of months, I was hoping for a bit of escapism with the family, instead it'll just mean I am unable to forget how **** this year has been, even for one day. But no, I wouldn't have got bladdered either way.

Pompey are top of the league , so if I were you I’d just spend the whole day looking at the League One table

Doncaster are playing before then, so we could be second on Christmas Day. Up the mighty Shrewsbury!

My take on it is how it affects each one of us individually.

Tier 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8 makes no difference really to me, I work form home, there is just Mrs No7 & me, and my daughter and grandkids are 4500 miles away so a FaceTime call is normal. I won't see my dad (who after 9 years of living in France is back living in the UK 2 miles from me), but we have FaceTime too and he is happy with his wife at home.

However, everyone is different. There may be relatives that are lonely etc and frankly fed up as we have had the most annus horribilis ever.

If we can get through these next few months, we can have the mother of all parties in the summer or maybe the end of the summer, when things begin to get back to normal.

The human spirit is amazing and we will all get through this.

Oh, and Up the Saints, we march on :)

It’s just too late I think. People will have made plans and won’t change them now (not everyone, but a large amount I’d guess). Plus just seeing all the videos of train stations and the grid lock as people try and leave London tonight is enough evidence that this new strain is going to spread through the whole country.

For me personally it doesn’t effect me all that much. We dropped from Tier 3 to Tier 2 today and inevitably all the pubs were packed, lots of people I know are back already for Xmas so I doubt they will be rushing back to Tier 4 London after Xmas anyway. Have to imagine we will be back in full lockdown in January, France, Germany and the other UK countries are doing it so can’t see why we would be any different

Imo the Gov have made the right call, but they shouldn’t have put themselves or the public in this situation in the first place.

It would literally have been easier to keep their powder dry and open things up for Xmas if the data showed they were able, instead they promised the public a five day free for all and then have had to renege at the last minute when people have made firm plans.

Yes, but did anybody really think it wouldn't change? So many countries in Europe are going to be in lockdown over Xmas why would we be any different, just because our government are slower to react than some why do you think not.

Personally I have been in Tier 3 since the start of November and although the numbers have come down they have started to go up again. It really pisses me off that that is happening, and that many young adults still go into shops without masks on or wearing them correctly or sanatising their hands

Yes, I expect some selfish irresponsible people will just do what they want to do. Some don't even believe it exists and some think the vaccines manufacturers have some evil intent.

That’s fair comment Tom. There is a chance I’ll have to drive Christmas Day now, but if necessary I will. It’s a small sacrifice.

I separate that Archers and a feel massively for those people. I hope the government support them. It’s the lack of individual sacrifice on something “nice to do” that I find selfish. I have it with my mates. This summer my daughter was 18 and she understood the situation and her grand plans for an 18th party she’d planned for months had to be cancelled. No fuss. She met friends in 3s and 4s in our car port (within the rules then). Couple of my mates had a 40th and a 50th birthday in the summer. Moaned like hell. One did the decent thing and cancelled, the other had a BBQ for 25 people... and I got called wet for not going.

I’d never want anyone to suffer having income and livelihood affected, but the unwillingness to go without is a sad indictment of our society today. In my opinion only, of course.

Edit: I’ll add that it is also difficult for anyone who will now be on their own, through no fault of their own if distances are too big. That is where I may need to drive. We think mother in law can still come to us as she is in our bubble and stays for periods at a time (checking that out again) but if she decides not to, then I’ll be driving 150 miles each way on Xmas day. So be it.

Thats not great, but in the grand scheme of things it is a small sacrifice to help get things under control.

The big problem here is the fact that the decision was taken in the first place 5 weeks ago or whatever it was. Was far too ****ing early for any decision to be made with any certainty, and now cancelling 6 days before means many will just crack on anyway I expect. Seeing busy train stations in London last night says it all. Not that I blame people.

I'm personally not affected by it (and wouldn't be overly arsed if I was; Christmas way down the list of **** things this year for me), but I do feel hugely sorry for the people who have been affected by it at such short notice.

Once we have had the vaccine we will have a xmas day then........it might be April yet,but so be it.
