The honeymoon is over that’s for sure, I wouldn’t say the fat lady will start to sing if we lose to Wycombe, but she’ll definitely be warming up , we have to start winning soon.
I thought my mate Massengo, whilst not GOOD, did play slightly better - I counted 4 well-placed passes and a tackle. A loan to League 1 for him methinks.
To be fair to Taylor Moore he is not a left sided player and never will be, he’s a right sided defender but needs to do the simple things right and release the ball quicker
And that has been the problem in midfield since we were promoted, we have had decent players but never players that gel together as a fully functioning midfield.
We have some very talented players, like Bentley, Kalas, Moore, Vyner, Bakinson, Nagy, Semenyo, Wells and Martin but we are not playing like a team that is gelling, that sadly happens sometimes, for us I think we lack on field leadership, you can see it defending set pieces, there is a lot of pointing but very little if any organising, shouting and maybe even a bit of pushing players to where they should be and it too often results in defenders losing a player that they should be marking. But boy amongst the talent there is an element of deadwood especially at full back and of course the perennial lack of midfield quality, a point picked up in commentary last night only Sheff Wednesday who are bottom of the league have less shots overall than us and that should be the clue.
I’m not in the Holden out camp and even though really pissed off at the moment. The amount of games we’ve played in this past 2 weeks with very limited available players is absurd. I know a lot of teams can say the same about the amount of games, but as Gary O’Neil said we’ve 10 possible first teamers with nearly half starters out at the moment. When we had Mawson fit we looked a lot more stable and that was when Kalas was out. Hopefully get through to January look at the injured players and make a judgment call on to buy some more players as after all we’ve a lot of players contracts end this season so we will not be overloading for next season.
Good common sense mate, I totally agree with you, pointless getting the knives out yet, I still think we are playing crap and warning signs should be raised though.
10 possible first teamers - The only players that would start above the current crop- Mawson Desilva Baker Weimann who else would you swap out at present. Football has been poor for over 2 years -shocking.
He was right sided against Millwall and allowed their scorer far to much room to get a shot off. He was dropped after a nightmare against Norwich and will/should be dropped again now. I understand what you mean about be on the wrong side, I think Vyner would ger found out that side, but I think Moore is just not a Championship defender. He was absolutely skinned by their wide player last night, lack of pace doesn't matter left or right side. He a rabbit in the road.
I agree but with only a fully fit Mawson and DaSilva would improve us and certainly there is no one on that list to solve our midfield problem, which is our main problem, unless the mythical Walsh and Williams suddenly wake up from hibernation and even then we have no idea whether they will gel as a pairing, but it would be good to know. January will be the time when we will actually see what is going on, that is the time we usually sign wingers who don't get a game, strikers who never look like scoring, a giant centre back no better than what we already have but never sign what we need, midfielders!!!!!!!!!!
That's what for me LJ failed in his management, rarely being able to put a team together that gelled. Definitely agree that there is lack of leadership on the field. I've said it for a long time now, way into LJ's reign.....we are 3 or 4 quality players short of a decent team. I believe many individuals including Massengo would thrive in a team that are playing well, which might be stating the bloody obvious about a lot of players, but you need grafters to do the donkey work allowing the likes of O'Dowda & Massengo to play with freedom.
The trouble was, under LJ - as soon as a leader raised his head, he got sold. Believe me, I don’t think it’s just to do with LJ either - I think if we had a natural leader in the side now then Ashton would sell him from under DH - except we don’t have one.
On the limited time I’ve seen Williams, I would have him in. I liked Walsh when he played on the odd occasion and that day he destroyed Stoke on his own. Going on the reviews of people who watched his development last year possibly him. Would like to see if Sessegnon is like his brother, after all Hunt is hit or miss. He is a confidence player IMO so when it’s backs to the wall I question him. So possibly another there. I don’t think we’ve seen Sessegnon after all the reviews on him are not coming through yet. Jamie Patterson with people doing the donkey work playing in behind the front 2 is another but if not starter a good one on the bench. So with your 4 that I agree with that is 7 maybe 8 players who could all be starters. Diedhiou, good enough to be a squad player but not a starter for me. So there you go Ive named 9 for you. I would of added 10 with Brunt but even though you raved about him and put a video up from 10 years ago I don’t want him near the main subs of the bench let alone start. You just want a new manager as soon as the wind blows, and you’re even talking nonsense of Howe is coming to go with your Pearson is coming and Hughton’s on the roof comments.
We’re still lacking that midfield ‘general’ - a Marvin Elliott type, who can break up play and allow the rest of them to play to their strengths. Without this, we are too lightweight - as has been evident of late. Hopefully Williams will fit that role when (if) he ever plays. Nagy isn’t the man for the job.
Rod -very disappointed with Brunt-On the other hand Gallagher ran the show yesterday evening MOM. Martin is half the player that arrived and Wells a fraction off the player from Burnley/QPR. So what does that say -Coaching management issues I would say. The service these strikers receive from the rest of the team is absolutely shocking.Bet both wonder why they signed.
Watched Palmer second half for Swansea, if you want a player that walks around fair play lazy beyond words have to agree with Rp he's useless.
