A very nice listed bumper at Ascot to conclude the card with 6 of the 7 runners having won last time out. Probably the most visually impressive was Stage Star who powered away from Aviewtosea (won next time) at Chepstow in the manner of a decent animal. The other Nicholls runner, Knappers Hill, also won a Chepstow bumper in good style (albeit the 2nd has gone novice hurdling and done nothing for the form). Both horses won well on debut but the bare form can be questioned and that of Wonderwall's victory at Ascot looks potentially higher class. Richard Spencer's Yeats gelding showed a really nice attitude to tough it out up the home straight against a couple of decent looking rivals with the first 6 pulling well clear. The form has not yet been tested but certainly has a nice look to it. With the going officially soft, heavy in places, this could turn into a stamina test and therefore the pick is Fergal O'Brien's Peking Rose who came home with a wet sail at Carlisle to nab it close home.
Also at Ascot I suspect No Ordinary Joe could prove to be quite extraordinary in the Kennel Gate Hurdle and Lieutenant Henderson can enjoy a quick fire double with Allart in the Noel Novices Chase. First day of my extended Christmas break so really looking forward to it
Best bumper of the season on these shores so far mate. Try as I might to find a betting proposition I conclude that the favourite STAGE STAR will win. Good luck with yours. Make sure you tune in to the last at Navan where the 1st and 3rd in ante post lists for the Festival Bumper lock horns. A win for the odds on Sir Gerhard would see him go shockingly short for the big one in March.
Another extremely expensive Cheveley Park purchase - they aren't messing about are they? I wonder who scouts for them? Harold Kirk?
Just the one bet for me tomorrow: Ascot 3.05pm Fiddlerontheroof 9/4 win. (Best Odds Guaranteed) He has been a tad disappointing so far this season, but he could well have bumped in to a real decent prospect last time in Caribean Boy. Tomorrow the ground will be testing which will suit and I think as a result we will see a different performance. The fences take some jumping around Ascot and I'm not so sure some of these will be able to jump with as much fluency as the Tizzard beast in soft/heavy ground. I will be disappointed if he doesn't go very close. Good luck all.
In the first at Ascot, I like the chances of Zyon. I was impressed with it last time out and 6/1 looks a decent price
The 14.30 Ascot looks very interesting, and tricky. Impossible to rule out any of these with any confidence. At 5/1 (PP,BV) My Drogo ew could pull it off for the Skeltons
I'm having a punt on game socks in that race 15/2, went up 7lb for a nice win last time but having 6 taken off, has gone on yielding and good to soft due to go up a further 5lb. Good luck with yours.
Yes for sure the Tizzards have not been in great form and you wonder when they will hit top gear. Still had winners though in December and few 2nds this week so far. It can all suddenly change...
Maybe, you want pie, chips and gravy and after all, your my Wonderwall. (3.35) Singles & Double with Allart 3.05 Have a good day fellas
Ascot 14,30 Santhou Express 5/1 Navan 14,10 Lord Erskine 12/1 e/w (5 places with Sky, 4 others) And looking very carefully to Holymacapony at Navan.
Very tough card at Ascot today. ALLART perhaps the one to take on Fiddlerontheroof in the 3.05 I am leaning towards SIR VALENTINE in the 1.55 SOARING GLORY and SHANTOU EXPRESS in the 2.30 STAGE STAR the one to beat in the last
Emir Sacree wins at 11/1 after a 635 day absence - either he was a couple of stone well in or Henderson got him cherry ripe. Either way a very good performance.
