TBF Wales seemed to be doing fine up to our firebreak but then our leadership suffered a brain fart of the highest order.

Drakeford gambled that 17 days would be enough - he said at the time that we wouldn't know until afterwards if it had worked.

Before the firebreak we had areas under different levels of control but Drakeford committed to reverting to a single national level of control so everyone came out at the same time to the same lower levels of control.

It has been obvious for at least two weeks that some areas needed a lockdown but no, we could only do that at a national level.

As someone has mentioned Brexit, for some reason, I have to say it'll be a disaster and the repercussions will endur for a decade. I'm having to leave France because of it and the French can't believe what we've done. No problem, I'll come back and do summat else but I think it'll affect loads who thought it was a great idea. I think I heard that Nissan have binned Sunderland for the new electric car, just the start.

But never mind, we can now have bendy bananas <doh>

Brexit will happen without a deal because of Macron wanting free fish at our expense and doesn't understand what sovereignty back means, in fact even when we agree a deal Macron will block it as he says in his own words, Renault who i believe own Nissan have decided not to build 2 new models in France but at Washington The French bailed Renault out but called it a loan to get around European law however they want a level playing field but object to us bailing out any firms we see fit even as a sovereign nation, As i live in Germany i am affected personally as my wife is Kenyan, and financially as laws are changing here especially as i own my own home outright and have no mortgage. however being a true patriot i class these as inconveniences and will always put my country above anything else, i have lived in an era that saw Britain have many hardships and millions dead in two world wars to help Europe out on both occasions, and even used its own money not for the good of England but to help Germany overcome its devastation in its aftermath, only to have little gob shytes like ver Hoofstadt and Macron want to rob our country blind, we pay 1 billion a month to the EU nearly 4 years they have effed around supposedly wanting a deal yet we sorted 6 deals out in 6 months with no problems, if anyone is to suffer after Brexit it will be Europe as they cant find the 12 billon a year to fill our hole it will leave in there budget they are squabbling already and Poland threating to leave now yet they have benefited by 3 billon a year profit to bring them up to scratch that's why most Poles have gone home its not the poor man anymore.

So, in a nutshell irrespective of blame or cause, do you think Brexit is a good thing or a bad thing for the UK?

a bad thing but EU is tying to make us pay so eff them, they are just trying to give us a hard time for voting out to make any other nation not want to so a deal wont work but now we have the biggest trading partnership in the world which dwarfs the Eu and its them who will want to join ours but will have to get rid of tariff's which is what pays their exorbitant cushy MEP lifestyle basically they can go and eff themselves

Thing is, that was 100% predictable from the start ...

... Johnson knew exactly what would happen and who to blame.

It's an absolute disaster imo and will just get worse.

Not often I find myself disagreeing with you Smug, but on this occasion I think you are looking at Brexit through Smug-Tinted spectacles.
As for the French, when have they ever done anything for GB unless it suits them. And let’s not forget they stand to lose a big chunk of their fishing quota, a quota that is fished in GB waters.
I also think it will be more than probable that you could chose to stay in France if you so wish. I have friends who have decided to do just that, irrespective of any Brexit deal.
Anyway Smug, Merry Xmas to you and Mrs Smug.

Cheers and thanks to all the Simpsons.

I don't want to get into endless specifics mate, I just think Brexit is a disaster ...

... there's nothing rose-tinted about this, its all incredibly sad for me.

I'll have to leave France as many others are already doing.

I am with you Smug, I think that Brexit will be a disaster that we will be paying for long after I have shuffled off this mortal coil.

However, I believe that respecting the democratic decision to leave is far more important to the country than the concerted efforts of the remain campaign to throw a spanner in the works.

Of course. And yes. Some of it is opinion, some of it is pretty easily verifiable fact really.

But this thing will pass, and then I'd personally like to see the Chinese, or at least the CCP, challenged, as they almost certainly sat on knowledge of this virus for months, as they did with Sars.

As far as I'm concerned there is no remain campaign and I'll go along with any democratic decision ...

... I just feel it's a huge mistake and based on a grudge rather than reality.

The repercussions will, as you say, disrupt the country for many years to come. Sadly it'll be our children and grandchildren who'll be affected as much as we are. Bright young British people will see jobs in France, Germany, Spain, etc taken by the very people the UK want to keep out.

We're on the way to becoming the insular narrow minded country I grew up in. Never mind though, at least we'll have the good old fashioned British passport like we used to in the good old days.

The remain supporters surely still can't be using Nissan as a fear tactic? That ship has well and truly sailed. We were told because of Brexit the Washington plant would be closing and all the work would be going to Europe. The reality is that once it was confirmed that we would definitely be leaving the EU, Nissan closed down their car plant and surrounding factories in Spain and moved all the work to the UK. They were rioting in Barcelona because of it.

So Wales were doing fine and then the firebreak changed everything? There's the answer to all the Labour voters looking in about how things would have gone under a Starmer leadership. He wanted the exact same thing.

Anyway, I hope you guys pull it back asap. I'm sure the deaths will drop massively after the next 6 weeks once the most vulnerable have had their jabs.

A nationwidel lockdown, air ports included, for one month might have been a good idea.

I'm not in any brigade, and don't have any tactics, nor am I trying to win an argument ...

... I'm just giving my honest opinion that we've made a big mistake and it's sad to see.

Feeling the government are doing badly doesn't make me a Labour supporter, which I'm not. There are Conservative MPs who've criticised the government which doesn't make them Labour supporters either. Being a Conservative doesn't mean you can never criticise them, you're allowed.
