Premier League clubs have voted against 5 subs for a third time. Now surely that has to be the end of it.

 

Although clubs may name 9 subs.

 

My thoughts are with Jurgen Klopp at this difficult time.

 

And today's sincerity badge and tee shirt goes to SF4L. I mean that sincerely folks.

 

Liverpool win last night.. Any mention of 5 subs in the post match interview?

 

I don’t see the harm in 5 subs, personally.

 

Klopp decided not to make any subs at all last night just to make, er, a point, or something.

 

Massive advantage to big clubs with deeper quality in their squads.

 

Now don’t be silly Chilcs. You must have just missed them because he needs to use all of them to keep his players safe. Dangerous for the players not to make subs.

 

I’d rather be able to protect our players from injuries, especially with our high tempo style of play, and give young players a chance. The squad depth gap is enormous but that is also reflected through increasing our chances of injuries to the already small pool of players we have, which is what 5 subs would mitigate.

It didn’t do us much harm in the operation restart fixtures and I’m pretty sure I read that we voted in favour of it today.

 

I just think that say we are playing Man City and are 1-0 up 10 mins to go, they have the squad to replace half the outfield players with players that are still excellent and win 2-1. We just can't do that. It makes it a whole different game.

 

I'm amazed they had the third vote to be honest, given that it's been lost again. I was convinced that they'd hold off of a third vote until they had the numbers to win it. Because, as Tom says, there surely won't be a fourth.

Unless of course one club (or more) gave Klopp and co the nod that they would change their vote, only to screw them over behind their backs. That would be sweet.

 

Have there been many instances in the modern era where one of our players has been forced to play on and done himself a serious injury?

 

We beat them 1-0 when they had 5 subs.

 

No, but this season has been an outlier in muscle injuries due to the schedule and lack of pre-season. It’s irresponsible for our players welfare. And every other league in Europe has done the same, so why should the PL not?

 

Not so long ago there were no subs allowed....now that was irresponsible, but 3 should be enough. The rich clubs want 5 subs so they are free to make tactical changes and protect themselves against late injuries....if you care about injuries so much, hold back your subs, Klopp. It is evident they are trying to gain an advantage or the big clubs wouldn't be so eager...altruistic, they ain't. Having said all that I got used to 3 subs, I can probably get used to 5 subs.
