I expected a better performance but I didn't get one - that's what happens with football; unless you're a Bayern Munich fan, a team who can afford to buy all their rivals best players, you're going to be disappointed. That's why we love it, I don't have a problem with people being disappointed, what I do have a problem with is the hysterical ****ers who spout the ''we shouldn't be losing to'' mantra - just for clarity, I don't have you as one of those.
For me personally I expect a manager to see whats going wrong on the pitch during games and seek to rectify it .. I don't think we have a bad squad here .. some need coaching for sure to actually engage brain before running down dead end alleys or to also realise that there are 10 other players on the pitch so its actually okay to pass the ball instead of wanting to do it all themselves. Now good managers or coaches can do both .. they can educate the players and can adapt to certain situations developing in games. What irks me is that with this group of individuals currently 'managing' us dont seem to have a clue. Its one tactic .. whether its working or failing miserably .. their tactics have been found out .. as they were in the championship.. and they have no clue how to change and adapt .. talk of making plan A better is falling on rocky ground right now .. all its done is bugger our most influential players leaving them knackered and running on empty tanks.
In a nutshell, we are currently playing below average football, with a well below average manger, with an above average group of players (for this division).
On the plus side most of the other teams in the top half struggled last night See what Friday brings .
Absolutely not, we seem to fall out with players who could be good for us on the pitch and may even turn into a bigger pay day by selling them on. But luckily the club has morals and principles and would rather put the player on the naughty step where they can be no use to the team and eventually walk away for nothing. Best run club and all that.
I don’t dispute that, I was referring to the ludicrous suggestion we are playing below average football.
I think he meant we are playing below average football now. We had been playing above average, which is what took us to the top, but we aren't at present.
The old saying 'In the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king' was never more apt regarding City's position at the moment.
I base it on the players we have and how good I know they can be. We've seen what a decent performance from these lads looks like and when we put one in, the opposition can't get near us. We press, we look forward, we mix up our attacks between wing play and going through the middle. We score goals and we keep them out. Yes, that's dependent on the quality of the opposition too, but overall from what I've seen this season we just aren't clicking for whatever reason. I put it down to the manager, we've talked about our tactics to death but this one dimensional thinking is starting to cost us. It's only December, but we said when we lost to Fleetwood that it's only a few games in. That excuse won't last forever and we're capable of so much more than we're showing. It's not an easy league, but it's not that difficult that we can get nilled by Shrewsbury at home or get paggered by Fleetwood in the manner that we did. We're better than this, much better and if we're not putting our best efforts into every game, that buck has to stop with the management.
Lets hope we commence another long unbeaten run beginning on Friday night. It's still very much in City's hands, but let's be pragmatic promotion and relegation are very rarely decided in December.
What if we continue doing exactly what we are doing and have been doing form and tactics wise all season and go up? Isn't that the aim? Or would you rather we mix it up and play pretty football week in week out and potentially stay in L1? We are top, top on merit because we have picked up more points then every other single team in the league. Most on here had us going straight down again ( not saying you did btw ) and now that's not happening it seems like something else is needed to moan about. Again I'm not saying this is how you feel, bit you and certain others do come across as wanting us to fail and happy when we concede / lose etc.... I'm pretty sure every other team in our league would take our absolutely awful tactical nous and poor performances if it meant sitting top of the league by 2pts and a game in hand. We aren't going to play top football every game, every player isn't going to play at 100% every game, the football isn't going to be pretty every game, we won't win every game and I know it won't suit some, but we will have a patch or 2 of poor form. But the sign of a good team is not playing well and still picking up points which we have done and getting through the poor patches and going on another run. I get some don't like grant and if we won the league unbeaten it still wouldn't be enough, but he's in charge and has us in exactly the place all of us would have taken if offered at this stage of the season
