Don’t think it will take LJ long to assemble his backup team , he will certainly need help to turn this club round but I presume that he was promised the resources to achieve this .The biggest problem he will face is moving people out to replace them with new players that he will want to bring in . The new sporting director will need to get his recruitment team in place prior to the transfer window opening as they are hopefully going to be busy .
How on earth do we realistically get around the salary cap and no fees in January? We’ve got an ageing, slow, overly-paid and inflated squad who we won’t be able to ship out and then relying on loans as incomings. I honestly think were not far from writing this seasok off, its been an absolute disaster so far. I cant see this group of players putting runs together. Sloppy at the back, bad goalkeepers, zero creativity in central midfield and a non-scoring strikeforce. Johnson will have done a miracle if he gets this lot up this season i think.
Possibly a bit of pace added up front, and ditching playing 7 defensive players every game may help. A bit pace up front keeps the opposition on their toes. Watching our plodders every game try and breakdown the opposition is painful as we play in front of them, it's so easy to defend.
Would it be possible maybe to drop 3-4 players out of the playing squad therefore creating spaces within the salary cap
With this money coming into div 1 and 2 clubs they are only allowed a pitiful amount to spend on transfers. Something like £10,000 (or £20,000), so unless we will sell at this sort of price nobody can buy our players. I can’t see any of our lot going up a division or two. Maybe Onion, Gooch or Hume (all currently out injured) Maybe Dreyfuss can just pay half of them off to clear some space and get some better players in. That’s probably the only way to get a chance at promotion this season. Also, aren’t we poor at throw ins. It’s panic stations every time when the throw in is returned to the thrower as all the other teams know we do this. Wigan found their own player every time with their throw ins.
The “no fees” will only apply if we accept some sort of bail out that has those restrictions applied. The salary cap can surely be overcome by not including Graham, Grigg, O’Brien whoever in our match day squads
Assuming that we've got our wealthy owners by January than the plan is pretty simple for me. First of all refuse the bail out money and leave our hands untied. Secondly get deals sorted for quality under 21s (not counted in the salary cap) and other players that will definitely improve us. Thirdly ruthlessly pay off the contracts of our crapper players until the books are balanced. It's a lot of work but it needs doing and there's no reason that we shouldn't have the staff to sort it all out.
Well, been grafting on again today. Seen the result, now 9th in League one, says it all. no need for a summary lads.
Given Sartori's and Louis-Dreyfus' links to Monaco and Marseille, why don't we get some of their under 21's in, in January to bolster the squad. Or if we go closer to home, Johnson and Speakman will know Bristol City's and Birmingham's under 21's inside out. We've also got a new head of recruitment to come in too, haven't we? We'll have options. And given our spending power on those under 21's wages verses other teams in our league, we should be in a better position than most in January.
You do have a history of believing anything. So someone reckons this on twitter and thats official is it.
