I would have thought promotion would have been an absolute minimum, I’m surprised playoffs would suffice.
Said it lat week. There'll be a dead cat bounce or even a black cat bounce but his horrible and false big headed personality will be seen through by the players before to long. I like Sunderland, great club and supporters so wish you the best of luck.
Tactically it's hard to pinpoint what Lee Johnson's football consistently follows. He has favoured four at the back and building from the back, past the first third he has played a astonishing amount of systems and styles from short passing and high pressing to playing longer and more frequently than Warnock at Cardiff. A consistent was Bristol City's home form was worse than it's away level, an opinion was the football was extremely dull. It surprising that a club of Sunderland stature would employ him, but as others have noted he talks a great game ... Almost in riddles. After years we did not learn what his identity was despite him referring to his team losing and finding it!
I wonder what his promises will be, 3 transfer windows for promotion, Premier league or European football within 5 years? - Ring any bells?
Welcome Left for Dead I’m sure if you have browsed our various forums you will have gathered that opinions are polarised on LJ. The people who hate him have always done so - since he was a player for us under his dad. The stats certainly strongly suggest nepotism (played far more games under Gary than anyone else) and some people couldn’t stand it and still can’t let go of it. Stats can say anything you want though - a politician once said ‘lies, damned lies and statistics’ and that applies here. The stats also show that, despite strong cries of nepotism, he played an integral part in the most successful season we’ve enjoyed since the days under Alan Dicks in the top flight. As our manager, he took over in February 2016 when we were in the relegation zone and headed back to league 1 in our first championship season. He was with us for 4 seasons and under his tenure we became an established championship side, flirting with the playoffs for the past 3 seasons but falling away just before the season end. As others have pointed out, his management style was confusing. We played some great football for a while (the cup run in 2017) where we beat Man U and gave Man C a scare, but since then it has been a slow decline - in performances if not league places. In the end he looked like a little boy lost. We didn’t look like winning and it was right he went. However I look back on his tenure more fondly than some on here and wish him (and your team) well.
It could be pointed out that after twenty six games a team can't be relegated. City were two points off safety and with a transfer window to follow. Lee Johnson was provided with more far resources and in one twenty six game period amassed less points than Steve Cotterill had above.
During the 60s hundreds of Durham miners families relocated to North Somerset, some of which moved into our 'pit' village. As kids we got on brilliantly, some were great footballers and cricketers. To a boy/ man they supported Sunderland and our neighbours even renamed their house 'ROKER'. Ever since my brother and I have had Sunderland as our 2nd team. I abhor Johnson, he never played ONE league game in England for any manager other than his father. He played for a month at Derby and 3 months at Chesterfield but his contract was always held by his father at AG. OK he played about 15 games for a team in a pub league in Scotland but even then had to retire at age 31 when he was released Kilmarnock Madrid. He's had it on a plate all his life and no City manager in history has had any support like Junior (he signed 55 players in 4 years) but nevertheless he may do great for you guys and I sincerely hope he does well for your club, tbh I was worried that Uncle Steve Lansdown might find some sort of employment back here Ashton Gate. Be prepared for his quips and box entries etc. He will come across so sincere but in time I reckon you will all see through the veneer that is Lee Johnson.

nothing more to tell … just alleviates any doubts about how good or bad or how many runs of W's or L's he had or best runs without loss or losses without wins …
oneforthebristolcity said: ↑ Oh god now you've gone and done!! Not a good place to come if you want a honest answer!! But a fact for you..........Most successful manager we've had for over 40 years in terms of keeping us in the Championship... But you will get other BS comments on here because his Dad Gary picked him to play for us and some fans got upset (bless) so be aware Can't say I didn't warn you. Quite a lot of BS as predicted
Personally I don't care about the relationship with his father and I had no view on Lee Johnson's playing career for BCFC (it was ok) but I consistently refer to Mr Johnson endless philosophy. He did not meet the lofty standards he set, he did not fulfil his own aims, he as one of the best young coaches in Europe (his words) did not back up his own rhetoric. People paraphrase his words. The yin to his yang using a Johnsonism. He may reign in the self promotion at Sunderland. He may continue thus ... Give me a top six budget and I will win the championship - Lee Johnson. He has got a big club now v Bristol City. He said he could gain Europa league football here in five years ... The sky's the limit at Sunderland.
I have always regarded Sunderland as a big club, big stadia, massive fan base and you have a history in the upper echelons of football, I can't understand for the love of heaven why you would have such a character for your leading choice, achieved very little as a player, already managed 3 clubs and achieved zilch, signed well over 55 players for us, had the benefit of a superb owner who stood by him for 4 years and won nothing, the mans waffle is beyond belief, his excuses are beyond belief, he even blamed the length of grass in some football stadia and don't get sucked in by his promises, his football style is ' Project Boredom'. I wish you well and hope 'Streaky ' does well for you, after all his time with us he took us from a starting position of 17th and we finished up 12th, a progress of 5 places in nearly 5 years, magnificent achievment.
https://amp.theguardian.com/footbal...close-to-appointing-lee-johnson-as-head-coach The other thing you’ll see on our forums LFD, is talk of LJ ‘selling the family silver’ This refers to the (very lucrative) sale of Bobby Reid and Joe Bryan in particular. They were brought through our youth setup and are hailed as ‘one of our own’. They both went on to play in the Premiership, but some think we should have kept hold of them. Would they have wanted to stay with us? Who knows, but Johnson is held responsible by some for their departure. The fact that we made a big profit on them and they went on to play at a higher level is irrelevant in their eyes. They would have stayed with us and played out their entire careers at BS3 if nasty little junior hadn’t dragged them screaming and crying to the marketplace. Just by reading this thread you can probably tell which of us didn’t mind him and which of us can’t stand him!! At least at Sunderland he will start without any pre-existing prejudice.
Ha Ha Ha so the person who couldn't get anywhere without nepotism now gets appointed at arguably a bigger club with no Lansdown or father in sight
