Sorry if this has been done but just seen it.
    Surely he's better than Guthrie?

Wednesday's Mail newspaper speculates that Newcastle midfielder Dan Gosling is set to leave SJP in a loan move, with Doncaster Rovers among the clubs looking to borrow the England U21 international.

If accurate, that confirms not only the impact that our central midfield pair of Cheick Tiote and Yohan Cabaye have made to date, but also that Alan Pardew is content with Danny Guthrie as a midfield sub option - precisely where Hatem Ben Arfa will play remains a moot point.

However the loss of Tiote for up to eight games early in 2012 when he heads off for the African Cup of Nations may see Gosling back in first team contention - and continuing his return from a career-threatening injury by playing Championship matches in the meantime is surely better preparation than reserve team football.

At the minute I think he's behind Guthrie. Every time i've seen him play he's looked awful so hopefully going to the Championship for a couple of months will help his fitness and confidence and then he can take over from Tiote.

I prefer Gosling to Guthrie. However, he is unlikely to make the starting 11 at the moment, and as he is just returning from a long term injury, maybe it is better for him to get a few games elsewhere so that he builds his match fitness in readyness for when Tiote goes to the ACN.

Yeah I think this is a good move for all involved. I assume there's some sort of clause that means we can recall if we have lots of injuries in one area, so we won't be left short for cover.

I wonder what we'd all be saying about this had he scored that glorious chance at Sunderland.

He's defo behind Guthrie and he hasn't played a string of games in over a year. I think this is a good idea, ship him out and we still have Guthrie and Abeid and AT A PUSH Smith as back up for the dreamboat and the animal <ok>

The real question is where does this leave Alan Smith?

I hope it's because Pardew wants to get him up to speed for January not because he doesn't rate him.

Don't mind Guthrie, don't understand the Guthrie bashers

I think it was to do with the poor performances last season, WBA away in particular. He was fantastic for us in the Championship though, but I think that's maybe his level.

I'm not sure. Maybe if he can be recalled quickly but the concept of Danny Guthrie as sole cover for Cabaye and Tiote is terrifying. It reels of letting Routledge out without any real cover on the wing, which we got away with thanks to no injuries to Barton. Fingers crossed we'd get away with it and he comes back stronger, but its not ideal with our squad (Smith out and past it, Abeid even less experienced).

It'd be good for him, risky for the club.

  13. I think he deserves a chance here but i don't understand it when you say "surely he's better than Guthrie".

What has he done? He's been extremely average in all his games so far, apart from his friendly against Orlando in which he was good.

Guthrie has proven a worthy squad player. A **** RM, but a good CM. Decent ball control, good deliveries. He set up Coloccini for that cracker he scored against Spurs.

Gosling deserves a chance, but i personally wouldn't risk him in a PL game at the moment.

I'm terrified for when the ACN come around. I'd like to see Abeid mature a lot by then and fill that position, the experience will be good for him as well.

I thought he did well towards the end of last season though. Has a good range of passing and a good engine. Granted he has his weaknesses but he is still young and I'd rather have him than the likes of Geremi or Smith

July, but he can sign a pre-contract and freely enter talks to do so with other clubs from January.

I've never really seen the allure of Guthrie. I've given him time to show what he can do and frankly; I still remain unimpressed.

He's certainly not a first XI player; even in his preferred position in my opinion and if better can be brought in to provide better squad depth then I'd shed no tears to see him leave.

He's pretty much one paced and one dimensional. His passing is generally average and he rarely gets hold of a match and enforces himself in it. He's the weakest link in a midfield.

Some may say this is due to a lack of first team opportunities but I can see the reasoning into why he doesn't feature often.

As a right winger he's truly dire and cannot stop himself wandering into the centre, leaving the entire right flank open for the opposition to pillage.

I thought he was OK in the CCC but nothing more.

You could say the same about guthrie, He's extremely average. Gosling held down a first team spot at everton before his injury don't forget. It's not that I dont like Guthrie, I just think Gosling is the better player.

Abeid has opted to play for Algeria so if they qualify he may get called up.
