I want to get to a game with this few people just so I can sing this at the top of my voice and be heard: "One Onionman, there's only one Onionman, one Onionmaaan, there's only one Onionman!"
We need to get 2000 A3 Photocopies of an onion photo down to the ground and have them put on seats for fans to hold up.
Yep, I’ve got a possibility of going, have signed up but not really sure if I want to go. Actually, sorta hoping I won’t get the “chalis”. Sad really.
The last game I went to was Spurs away in the league Cup at their new stadium. What a game to finish on . That Ings goal after redmonds run was something else. Not expecting us non-season ticket folk to be able to attend a game for at least 6 months, depending on how the vaccine goes.
One thing to keep in mind is that league clubs have lobbied long and hard to be allowed this opportunity from the government. It was meant to happen in October, remember. Clubs have been planning ever since the beginning of the March lockdown as to how we would prepare for this day, when fans return. Clubs want to be seen to be doing things by the book and would rather be seen to be taking a cautious stance on supporter conduct and stadium compliance with restrictions. They can't risk making a show in front of the government and seeing that relationship sour at such a crucial moment for the sport if they're considered to be irresponsible or overly-relaxed towards COVID at what is being talked up by senior government officially as a crucial moment, nationally. Whether or not you think fans should even be in stadiums currently is another question and one I won't get into.
Here in HK it has been mandatory to wear a mask in any indoor or outdoor public place since at least July, so basically anytime you’re not in your own home. If we can manage this in 35C heat, with 90% humidity, for months, surely you can cope with wearing a mask for 90 minutes on a cold winters day, doing something you presumably really enjoy?
I'm sure that the article Saints put up about fans returning said no singing etc, yet Liverpool, Spurs and others over the weekend all had fans chanting while the stewards presumably did nothing? Now it sounded good and I enjoyed hearing it at the football again as it shows we're edging closer to normality, but surely that's only going to make Government keep the limits lower? Spurs in particular had fans fairly close to each other and they were all singing throughout the game. If new cases are now linked back to the game, I can only see the Government taking a tough stance.
I don't see it resulting in the number of fans being cut back (unless infection rates etc dictate it). But I can see it preventing the numbers from being increased as quickly as the clubs would want. I'm not really sure there's much which the stewards can do. Primarily it's down to the fans themselves (not just with things like signing, but also mask wearing etc). Although I do think the clubs could space out those fans even further, which would also help. West Ham, for example, put the vast majority of their fans into the same tier of the same stand.
Don't get me wrong, I'll happily return to games and I liked hearing the (real) atmospheres back, I just worry that the clubs packing the fans in to the same stand will mean limited attendance for a longer period. I didn't see West Ham but Spurs had their 2000 all behind the goal on the bottom tier. It was like a half empty away end and because they were all fairly close, you could get an atmosphere and songs going. I thought the whole point was no singing and no potential projection of virus particles!
Yep; interesting the media hasn’t commented on (not that I’ve seen anyway). I thought there would be quite a negative reaction. Still Millwall booing, Vardy smashing a flag(?) deliberately or not, fans signing & too close(?); footballs well well & truly back.
Anyone on here heard from the club today? People have started getting email confirmations from the club today. I've had nothing yet.
