Yes, hes ridden a prize stallion in a one horse race and as soon as actual competition has come along hes practically fallen at the first jump

  2. Who'd have thought a couple of lads from Medomsley and Bradley Cottages would be talking Zen nearly 60 years down the track!

Wonder if there's any chance of the new owners getting him his job back. Shocking what has happened after all he's done for the club

The irony being those at Line manager and above are tasked with money saving and all they come up with is slashing the headcount of the lowest group

Lovely from the fans, but actually sickening this is what it's come to.

    Club should be ashamed.

To be fair to the club, although what the kid says is right. In any job you criticise you're employer in public you are going to be in trouble

    Bloody clever clogs!

I heard the week after he invited the players to grab the bull by the horns. 3 ended up in hospital and the kit man had more than one or two extra brown stains to deal with that week.

Not sure if this has been posted already but really enjoyed what this former brum coach had to say about Speakman.

Top players such as Demerai Gray, Nathan Redmond and Jack Butland have all progressed through under him, and most recently Jude Bellingham, who he has had mentored and supported throughout his entire experience, and has been a big factor in why the player stayed at the club when he had potential European suitors looking at him all the time.
He will play a huge part in making the programme so good for individual players that they won’t want to leave, which might not have been the case in recent years, with many academy products leaving Sunderland.

That sound so much better than the Don approach.

Having not been involved in any training or have any real knowledge of the players?

    I'd highly doubt it

That sounds promising. Speakman looks very highly qualified to be the Academy Manager, so it's pleasing to see that we are looking at a separate DOF. If he's a highly qualified in that role as Speakman is in his, we're really in business.

Right, I'm gonna get pelters here like, but **** it. I just can't get excited by what seems like us bringing half of Birmingham's staff in. A team that seems from afar to have been rotting away at the bottom half of the championship for years.
Maybe it's cos I'm still narked about Poyet not coming back, although with all these "directors" coming in I can see why.

Wouldnt worry. After around 5pm we'll find out that they're not interested and the Annfield Plain Demi secretary is taking the job instead.

These lads are involved in the academy side, youth development side and by all account are well thought of and have done a good job of that.
Just because the first team haven't then produced doesn't mean the academy was badly run. They're just one part of the jigsaw. It's a step up from appointing lads from Eastleigh. We aren't gonna attract Dortmunds Academy Chief just yet.

Interesting to see how the rest unfolds.

So if you got the job today would you leave things alone until next week?

we don’t know who the manager will be, what he knows about the players or how we’ve been playing but I’m sure most out of work managers will be aware this job is up for grabs and will have done their homework on us if only to give their opinions and ideas in the interview.
