Spot on Robin, I think most of us agreed he would certainly be worth giving a chance, for me he would be an excellent choice but I am not sure how our board would view him.
Ancelotti could be just the bad kinda guy Arsenal need. He is, after all, a Bond Villain. He's a good manager and I'd welcome him at the club. Arsene I think is a club hero, legend, the best Manager perhaps that Arsenal have every had. He's revolutionised football in this country as we know it, but perhaps would be better suited as a Director of Football now.
I'd take Ancelotti. I think he'd provide us with a lot of good things: Defensive nouse Offensive nouse (see how many goals Chelsea scored when they won the double) Ability to motivate. See Chelsea's run to get back to second last season. However, he DID buy Fernando Torres. So he's not all good.
Not sure i want him to come in but he's not all that bad either. My preference would be Gus Hiddink. He would get us playing the same type of attacking football that we play now but tightening our backline up. Also if Anchovies took over, will he have the money at his disposal? With Hiddink, he would at least use our existing players and make them better. He made South Korea so much better with their limited players....
I think Roman might have been the one who made that purchase, anyway to them spending 50m on a player and it not working out only really has consequence in so far as embarrassment but nothing more serious in terms of damage to the club. FFP is only a white elephant and will not change much.
I think I have given up with the board of our club my friend. As Lady Nina said, they should all be sacked.
I'd carry Carlo on my back from Milan (is he back in Italy?) to London if he wants to Arsenal manager. He is used to work under huge pressure and he adapts different approaches against different teams whereas under Wenger we (attempt to) do the same against everytime Be it Shrewsbury or Barca. I am a Wenger fan and probably belong to that 'In Arsene we trust'-group, but there will be a point at which you have to say it can go on like this. And I have the feeling that we're very close to it. One thing Ancelotti promises is defensive stability. Lets see where we will be at the end of October but I'm afraid it is very unlikely that we will see Champions League football at the Emirates next season. And that would also be a responsibility of Wenger.
If Arsenal are outside of the Top4 by 10points in January I'll be wanting some very serious changes to be made
Well my friend if form were the only indicator, it doesn't bode well for us. However human strength and ingenuity can change that and we have to hope for it. As I'm sure many of us have, I listen and read reasonably widely on the issue and there are still two distinct camps when a discussion about Arsene ensues. The man is one of the very best in the modern game. Only SAF rivals him on achievements in the league. Yet like many, I too am gravely concerned about our form which is not only confined to this season but which continued from the last. If that form were arrested that would be one thing and a relief all round but it doesn't appear to be. Nor in fact are the various problems surrounding our team, performance on the pitch and the ability and urgency at which our manager addresses these issues. As you say, what happens in January is crucial. I would have said what happens from now is as important. There is much to do and one can only hope this team is able to not only challenge but produce consistent results. It's that or the Europa Cup or perhaps even nothing.
Owen Coyle is a ridiculously overhyped manager, his only big achievement is getting Burnley promoted.
with all due respect / thanks to Carlo.. Can't honestly believe he can take you forward.. He let the worst team ever in the history of football which had goal post for a striker - to win the league last season.. He couldn't do it with Chelsea's squad - how on earth do you think he will do it with your squad?? he needs constant backing from a great owner like Silvio or Roman.. imho
Harry is a million for the England job, too many dodgy deals that have yet to come out, a pending tax evasion case and a city of London police investogation on bungs that will nail him and put him away for a while, the FA will be doing everything they can to avoid embarrassing English football. If it was purely football coaching then I guess 'Arry would be a shoo in, but more chance he'll be sewing mailbags by the time England get going on World Cup qualification...
A lot of Chelsea fans--me included are still very unhappy about the way he was shown the door! He won us a PL and FA Cup double and would have achieved a lot more our board hadn't unceremoniously ditched Ray Wilkins at a vital moment last season. If he comes back to the PL I would rather he went somewhere outside London (somewhere in the Midlands preferably).
Yes thanks for that timely reminder about Ray Wilkins. I had all but forgotten about him. Can't see our mob giving Arsene a new office suite as Director of Football though and can't see him going on his own accord either unless it became really bad and what would be his settlement I wonder?
