Ole should have taken him off at half time. Fred has been an accident waiting to happen for the last hour.
Haven't watched any of the games tonight but looking at the results prior to and after, it looks like utd, although still top on GD are the ones least likely to progress now.
I didn't think that challenge was worthy of a second yellow, but he shouldn't have been on the pitch anyway so...........
Could not disagree more. I'd rather have wrong decisions over a 30sec delay, never mind two or three bloody minutes!
thing is, anything that is taking 2 or 3 minutes is usually highly subjective and not a clear and obvious error...they should put a 30 second timer on it and if not clear, go with the refs original call. Otherwise the game is going to die.
But in the case of offside the linesmen are refraining from making a close call, leaving it up to VAR to decide. It's all a complete mess.
They need to do like they do in cricket. A soft signal. We’re not sure but we think it’s offside if you can check.... can’t say for certain so go with your initial thought. Pretty sure they do same in rugby. Just seems like football are above all other sports, they think because they’re the biggest they do things right and be seen as a weakness to look at how others use the tech
That still won't prevent the interminable deliberation over close calls. Cricket is a much slower game - the issue in football is that VAR is radically changing the nature of the game. It was this that many of us warned against from the beginning. What works in one sport doesn't necessarily work in another.
yeah i suggested this some time ago as now linos let play continue and then flags their take . VAR only overturns if clearly wrong . My preferred option though is still to scrap the whole system .
The football shows have a system they use when analysing a game. You see the game being played at normal speed and then they stop it and use various arrows and symbols to zoom in and out etc. and I'm sure there's a 3D facility that includes rotation. If I'm mistaken and it's not the football shows that use it then it's LFCTV that do when they are showing goals from every angle. Why doesn't VAR include this? The ability to stop play and rotate 360 degrees (if necessary) would improve the decision making on offside at least.
