LAST MEETING AFC BOURNEMOUTH 2 PRESTON NORTH END 3

A league cup meeting which we won in extra time thanks to a beanpole Dane Makienok (pictured below)

Have been to Dean Court twice, the first was a 0-0 draw in May 1991 it was a Thursday night due to the fact in those days you were not allowed to play games in seaside resorts at Bank Holidays due to Leeds fans re arranging furniture ad various other things when rioting in Bournemouth previously.
The second visit was even more of a trek 1/1/1992 lost to an Efan Ekoku goal after 5 minutes, as away games go it was acracker, a coach load of completely wrecked people after New Years Eve, went passed Birmingham and nobody was about, the first stop was either Frnckley services or Strensham cannot remember which, put it this way if anyone had lit a math in the bogs the vast majority of the Midlands would have been destroyed.
One other oddity from that game think there were about 500 of us there that day including a bloke with a dog, had never seen him before thought he must have been a Southern based supporter.
However when they showed highlights of Dean Court games he was always there with us dog.
Wasn't until internet arrived that I found out who he was:-

Gordon bobby Roberts (born 1928),[1] better known as Gordon the Tramp, is a resident of Bournemouth who is famous for always knowing the correct time even though he does not own a watch.[2]

He is a well known character in Bournemouth with his large beard and Manchester United scarf, which he wears to all the AFC Bournemouth games.[3] Despite his nickname, Roberts is not actually a homeless man as he owns a house in Charminster, Bournemouth.[4]

Roberts became an internet phenomenon when Chris Kimber, a Bournemouth University student, created a Facebook page on his behalf.[5] As of January 2010 he has gathered an appreciative collection of 14,685 friends on this site;[6][7] fans have uploaded pictures of themselves with Roberts and added stories about meeting him.[5][8] The phenomenon has been widely reported in many UK newspapers and has spread as far as the Netherlands and Australia.[9] He has also been a subject on South England's Meridian News which can be viewed on video sharing websites such as YouTube. On 13 January 2010, a Facebook group was set up proclaiming Roberts had died of a heart attack. However, it was soon discovered to be a hoax and shortly afterwards he was found alive and well in Bournemouth town centre.[10] As of July 2011, an online campaign was underway to have Roberts carry the Olympic torch as it passed through Bournemouth.[11] The singer/songwriter Julian Barry who is also from Bournemouth wrote a song titled 'Gordon The Tramp' about Gordon Roberts.

    Head to Head

Haven ot played these lads many times 15/3/1975 lost 1-0 at Dean Court, do remember Moe losing his first seven games then we arrived at Dean Court and duly won 1-0.
Last time we played there under medal winner we got a point

    BOURNEMOUTH NEWBIES

Only two of note Riquelme on loan from Athletico Madrid and Carter-Vickers on loan from Spurs.
Otherwise they have most of last seasons top flight squad apart from having raked in 80 milion for Ake, Wilson and Ramsdale

    MACS VIEW

Like Watford free hit for us do not expect us to get anything from this, piles more pressure on the manager however the match on Saturday will become a must not lose game if he wishes to stay in post pressure building big time.

Cannot see NE winning. Had a colleague who studied at Bournemouth University. Did some auxiliary nursing at Christchurch Hospital. There was a very good Italian restaurant in Christchurch. Lovely time there.

The Lilywhites face their second long trip and their second clash with a recently relegated side in the space of four days on Tuesday night.

Alex Neil’s side make the long trip south to face Jason Tindall’s AFC Bournemouth – Eddie Howe’s former assistant taking over at the Vitality Stadium in the summer.

It is PNE’s first trip to the ground formerly known at Dean Court since their 3-2 cup success back in 2016 and their first league game there since early in the 2012/13 campaign, when Graham Westley was still in charge.

The summer saw a big change at the Cherries, with the new manager overseeing the departure of stars Nathan Ake, Aaron Ramsdale, Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser, but he still has a quality squad, packed with internationals at his disposal and it will be another tough test for North End.

    Team News
Manager Alex Neil will be able to welcome back the man who has skipper the side for most games this season, Alan Browne, and Joe Rafferty, both after one match suspensions.

Darnell Fisher will sit out the second of his three game ban, whilst there are still a significant number of first team players on the sidelines, including Andrew Hughes, Paul Gallagher and Josh Harrop.

Lewis Cook and Arnaut Danjuma face late fitness tests for Jason Tindall's side. The duo were both absent for Saturday's draw at Rotherham United, Cook with a knock picked up against Nottingham Forest and Danjuma nursing a minor hamstring complaint.

    Match Officials
The match official for Wednesday’s game is experienced referee Gavin Ward.

Gavin, from Surrey, is in his 14th season on the EFL lists, and he has officiated the Lilywhites on nine previous occasions including last season’s 5-1 home thrashing of Barnsley and the 2-1 win over Luton Town.

He has already been to the Vitality Stadium once this season, for their 3-2 home win over Blackburn Rovers on the opening day of the season. That was the first of his eight games this season, having issued 20 cautions and one red card.

He will be assisted by Graham Kane and Michael George and Adrian Waters will be the fourth official.

    Opposition View
Jason Tindall told afcb.co.uk: “They're a really good Championship side and they have been for a number of years now, they're a solid outfit, difficult to break down and they'll pose different problems.

“They've had some great results on the road, they've beaten Brentford away, they've drawn with Norwich, beaten QPR and Reading, they've had some good away games and results.

“They'll be coming here looking to win the game I'm sure and we've got to go into the game making sure we're fully prepared, taking our good run of form and delivering a good performance.”

Thanks. Must admit, considering recent performances, it has come as a surprise. Best wishes for the rest of the season.

Bournemouth missed the chance to go top of the Championship as they were beaten at home by Preston North End, despite a late comeback.

The visitors led on the counter early on when Tom Barkhuizen slotted in at the far post from Daniel Johnson's delivery before Scott Sinclair doubled the lead with an incredible strike from 40 yards.

Preston added a third when Patrick Bauer turned in Johnson's cross but Junior Stanislas hit back with a fine free-kick soon after.

The hosts set up a tense finale when Sam Surridge headed in Jaidon Anthony's cross but North End held on for the win.

The result ends Preston's two-game losing run and moves them up to 14th while Bournemouth remain second but are level on points with third-placed Bristol City, who won at QPR.

Preston came into the trip to the Vitality Stadium on a run of form that had seen them lose five of their past seven league matches, but took a deserved early lead.

Barkhuizen scored his third goal in four appearances at the end of a fine counter attacker that began with Sinclair's clever ball to play through Johnson.

Sinclair found the net within five minutes of the restart as he spotted Cherries goalkeeper Asmir Begovic off his line and fired into the top corner from well outside the box.

Bournemouth fought back, however, after Bauer added Preston's third and were rewarded through Stanislas and Surridge's efforts, but they could not find a dramatic late equaliser.

A fine night for North End was soured when Bauer was carried off on a stretcher in added time with an injury.

Bournemouth boss Jason Tindall told BBC Radio Solent:

"They didn't deserve to score the three goals as they were based on our mistakes.

"The first came after a free-kick, the second was miscommunication at the back and then the third was from a free-kick where we switched off at the back post.

"I felt if the game went on for another five minutes we would have got something. We were asking questions but it wasn't to be for us tonight."

Preston North End manager Alex Neil told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"I'm disappointed and upset for Patrick Bauer who looks like he has a really bad injury to his Achilles.

"He's a big character at Preston so to see him look like he's suffered a bad injury is upsetting for everyone.

"In terms of the game, I thought we performed well and were worth the win. We were deserving of the three points."
