It's about right for his age and development stage, he hasn't proved himself fully yet and if/when he does he will see an improved deal offered
Sure but it's essentially only a year extension. I would have thought a 2+1 is more reasonable, but still good to see some extensions happening.
With young players, unless they are exceptional then a 3-year deal effectively is probably about right. I remember Jonny Margetts who came through the ranks, he was scoring for fun in the U23's, but after moves to Tranmere, Scunny and many others is now at Boston United. Cullen was another one, he did at least make a career for himself in the lower divisions. If he succeeds then fine, if not then you have a get-out clause.
I read it as him being at the club including the one year extension, which would be until 2023, thereby being 2021/22/23. I guess if it was until June 2023 then it's effectively 2.5 years, so we are both close.
Surely that's not the point though. He's a promising talent, but far from certain that he'll make it. TBF, it seems like the club are finally getting quite a lot right. The emotional bank account is still around the same negative as the UK borrowing level though.
So then why would we offer him a huge deal if he’s not broken through yet? The money isn’t the issue. You look at KLP, who has definitely broken through and proven himself a talent. Chadwick hasn’t done that yet and at 20, he will need to this year, either with us or out on loan. I suspect he will go out in January, and then if he does well, we can trigger the extra year.
I didn't suggest a huge deal, I suggested that a 3 year contract is usually pretty reasonable/standard. 1+1 from us is just quite strange that's all.
I see what you mean, but a three year contract at his age would take him to 23 years old and maybe they're thinking that if he hasn't broken through in a year's time and they want to offload him, they can do with minimal fuss, especially if we get promoted and he can't get into a Championship squad.
Great to see him sign this contract, I think he could well be challenging Elder's place in the team shortly. KLP contract talks seem to be protracted, must be hanging out for more money? I know they said it was because of his isolation, but surely even if he is at home him and his agent can get things moving?
Tbf home grown talent for the most part being signed up on long term deals .. am I the only one that thinks Ehab is seeing pound signs before his eyes
Or being sensible and making sure we get a decent price instead of beingbstiffed like we have in the past? Other chairmen get praised for tying players to long term contracts yet some of our fans who have complained when we didn't do that are now complaining when we do.
