Clearly a foul tbf, you can see how hard he has kicked Welbeck by the fact Welbecks foot moves so much on impact - not sure wyy there is outrage with this one.

VAR has done a lot of **** to the game, but that is where it is good - that was a clear penalty, Welbeck got the ball first and Robertson took his foot out after

Fully expecting liverpool to demand another urgent review into VAR now after it's gone against them again.

The trouble is though, that Pandora’s box has been opened now. Once you start checking every goal for offside, the Salah one has to be given as well as the Mané one.

Perhaps what needs to happen is that the on-pitch ref is the only one who should decide when VAR is invoked, when he isn’t sure about a decision he has made. Do away with Stockley Park altogether.

That won't work because that will just encourage players to surround the referee to get them to review decisions. And if the referee is sure he got it right when he actually got it wrong it won't get rid of the howlers.

The latter paragraph surely just means that the debateable decisions get further consideration, whilst the total howlers are allowed to stand. Because, in all likelihood, the former have been seen by the referee (and so they may want to review), whilst the latter have not (and so they would be oblivious to the need).

That's just keeping the worst bits of VAR, and ditching the best bits.

Klopp is right to argue that the 12.30 KOs were arranged in a pre-COVID time.

But so too was the money which BT paid for the contact.

So lets see how happy Liverpool's board are to refund BT, in exchange for ditching 12.30 KOs.

Im sure Klopp and the players will all take a nice big pay cut too to facilitate the refund - as their contracts were signed with the club before the Covid crisis... right??

OK, so explain how you differentiate between offsides which are, in retrospect, clear and obvious errors, like the Mané one, and others which aren’t clear and obvious errors, but are still offside, like the Salah one? Where, so to speak, do you draw the line?

Bin off the lines and make it naked eye only.

They get two replays, if it's not clear from that stick with the onfield decision.

Yeah, that works for me. Extend the two replays to penalties and red cards, and I’m in.

I was referring to the your second paragraph, not your first.

But in response to your first, I see nothing wrong with Libby's suggestion. Just because there is the ability to test offside to the millimetre, doesn't mean we have to do it. Cricket is happy to introduce an element of leeway on lbw. And I understand that Holland do the same in their top flight division.

Umpire’s call on offside? Yes, good idea.

How about going solely (see what I did there) with the foot. Not shoulders knees and elbow just foot. Yes it might be millimetres sometimes but there's no argument.

    Two problems with that imo.

    1) The whole point of VAR is to overturn clear and obvious errors, those clearly don't fall in that category.

    2) The technology isn't accurate enough to make those calls when they're that close.
