Morning all. Another lovely blue sky out there with just a few vapour trails left by the high level aircraft. A rather sad day for me as my next door neighbour has put his house up for sale to go and live with his lady friend. Neither of them are in the first flush of youth, and it makes sense for them to just have the running costs of one rather than two houses. I suspect it might be up for sale for quiet a long time as the previous owners had tried to turn a country cottage into a modern one, and took out all of the best features you find in the local architecture. He has been a very popular member of the community, and it will not just be me who misses him and our chats over a wide range of things. The estate agents are reporting that they are very busy with the English trying to buy up property before the end of the year, but the speed that the notaires work I think many have left it too late. Have a good day, and may the Gods be with us this afternoon please. <ok>

Morning all. A lovely sunny morning but there is a nip in the breeze today. Going to try a conference call shortly with the football friends who we haven't been able to meet for months. A good day for me after a win yesterday, but I suspect the ladies will want to have a gossip. It is restricted to 40 minutes I am told, so maybe will not get chance to say too much. Have a good day whatever you will try. <ok>

Got my ticket to the coast and sorted out my capi for fishing - now the wife just has to put up with me going on about it for just less than a month.

    BRING IT ON!

How can you go fishing before the football season has finished?

Morning all. Bright, but really very chilly outside. I will have to think about cleaning the chimney and getting the woodburner going if it stays like this for long. Just been looking at a tractor for sale that is supposed to be in perfect working order. The seller wants €2,950 for it which seems fair seeing as it was new in only 1954. Mme suggests that it would be a risk during the hot summer or cold winter days as it has a metal seat. Perhaps I will give it a miss and look for an electric powered wheelbarrow. Have a good day whatever you must do. <ok>

Morning all. Damp and misty first thing, but that has blown over and the sun is now out. Confinement to the house today as yesterday I spent the day shivering and spluttering from a cold. Feeling better today, but will stay in and keep warm. Hope that you are all keeping well. <ok>

Not sure that I use that many postage stamps these days, but a few to send birthday and Christmas cards to friends and relations. I see that the cost of a UK first class stamp is going to rise by 9p to 85p from the 1st January. It is amazing to think that in 1971 that stamp cost 3p, there were still often a morning and afternoon delivery in many places, and there was no talk about cutting out the Saturday delivery.

The days when the Royal Mail was seen as a national asset to aid the country, rather than an asset that could then be cheaply flogged for a quick buck.

Morning all. Grey, damp and not very nice outside. I have been banned from leaving the house, "another day inside will not do you any harm" I am told. Good news on the vaccine front, although it would not have been for Mme's grandfather if he were still alive. Having served in WWI he had an intense dislike of anything foreign. No pasta, no cheese apart from Cheddar, nothing that even sounded as though it came from outside the UK. A German vaccine! I can hear him now, "we didn't fight in two wars to have German muck put into our arms". He was a lovely chap, even if to my ears he had some very strange views. Have a good day, and another win please. <ok>

Morning all. Grey and damp and not very warm. Lots of activity here, with gardeners and home helps busy. Being a gardener is a decent job in the summer months, but on days like this I give it a miss. Not having to do it to keep earning is fine until you venture forth and see just what you should have been doing. A few dry days and a bit more warmth should raise my desire to get at it again, but meanwhile I will stay dry and warm. Have a good day whatever you will do. <ok>

I hope you reminded him of the decidedly 'Continental' origins of the Royals Frenchie <laugh>

Alf Garnett would have blown a fuse at that - just as he did when it was pointed out to him that Jesus probably wasn't white...<laugh>
