Ian McKechnie - those were the days

"In a 2009 interview, McKechnie recalled how the orange-throwing tradition started when he was walking home after a training session.

“I was on Boothferry Road near the ground, and was eating an orange, and two lads went by and shouted good luck in the next match.

“At the next home game two oranges were thrown on to the pitch next to me and I picked them up and put them in the back of the net and thought nothing of it.”

At the next home game about ten oranges were thrown onto the pitch and, as the season wore on, the numbers increased.

“In the end it became farcical. We played Wolves and when I came out for the second half in front of the south stand these oranges just started coming and coming and coming. There were hundreds of them.

“The ground staff didn't know what to do. The ref came over and said we couldn't start until they had been moved. We got brushes and bags and got rid of them all. There were more than 600 oranges. It took five or 10 minutes before we could kick off again."

McKechnie recalled a phone call from his brother who had left a Rangers game and was listening to the scores on his radio, when the announcer said the Hull result was late "because the goalkeeper has been bombarded with oranges".

After leaving Boothferry Park, McKechnie signed for Boston Minutemen in the North American Soccer League.

Even in America, he couldn’t escape an orange being thrown in his direction by a Hull fan who had emigrated 20 years earlier."

Anyone remember the cocktopus? It was a penis that had been split in two, ejaculating out of the hole at the base of his shaft? It's one of the few genuinely revolting things I've seen online. As I recall, my beloved Tina was quite fond of it.

Toby is in a permanent rage.

If Toby moved to Scotland it would be free jam rags all year round.

Celebrity mulattoes now on TV asking people of 'dual heritage' to donate blood because it 'works best when ethnically-matched'. I hope somebody has a word and tells them to simply point out to any doctors treating them that we're all the same under the skin (with the possible exception of Tobias).

    Another victim of covid. :emoticon-0101-sadsm

A project to erect a 10' brass statue is postponed until social distancing is no longer required.

Organisers say this is needed to ensure a sense of pageantry for the unveiling, complete with dignitaries and military band.

"The statue is expected to attract many visitors, which will increase Grantham and South Kesteven's status as a destination for tourism with the associated benefits. An increase in visitor numbers to the area will boost the local economy and benefit our local shops and businesses."

"The installation of a statue to recognise that Margaret Thatcher was Britain's first female Prime Minister who came from Grantham? For this fact alone the people of the town should support this. The unveiling will put Grantham on the world stage and enhance Grantham tourism."

Nah, they'll respect it, and tourism will pick up. The statues in Windsor are a fine example of how an area can benefit. I bet not many people knew that's where Shrek was from before this.

On a side note, I miss the old red telephone boxes, any time I see Local Hero I get very nostalgic.

Hull, we've always had our own telephone company, so ours are cream. Apart from special ones, that are done in Gold for Olympians, or like a bee for a lady that does a lot of charity work.
