Interesting view from Bielsa, that the clubs that can now let fans back in have an unfair home advantage over those who cannot.
This did occur to me as well, but I can't see any sensible way to counter it except to ban all fans again, just in the name of fairness. I don't think that would go down very well with any football fans. And having away fans travelling to games would be an obvious means of spreading the virus across the country. It just cannot be justified. Sorry Marcelo, but tough titty in my view. Football is awash with unfair advantages (mostly money-based, but sometimes geographical, historical or other kinds). Advantages, disadvantages and efforts to overcome disadvantages is all part of the rich football tapestry. And in the end Football belongs to fans. Not managers or owners or governing bodies.
It doesn’t surprise me that we’re in tier 3 after the last lockdown there were no travel restrictions imposed so all and sundry gathered in mass down on the coast spreading their germs and buggered off back up the M2!
More bad news Pub Landlord. Even if your pub serves 'substantial meals' your customers have to leave as soon as they've finished eating. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55109932 I know that the rules and restrictions are in place for solid safety reasons. But the nit-picking nature of some of the rules smacks of jobsworths enjoying themselves just too much. What extra harm can there be in remaining at your table after you've finished your grub, and washing it down with one more pint before you leave? Are we going to have COVID wardens lurking around in pubs, telling people to get out as soon as they've cleared their plates? Give people a little bit of credit for pity's sake.
Absolutely crazy. I know the Government are in an almost impossible situation, but they do not do themselves any favours at times.
That's a good idea, never a truer word and all that. I am sure @The Pub Landlord will take this on board.
My pub doesn't do food so we don't even reach first base. Most drinkers around here are manual workers who come in for a few drinks on their way home. They are not the sort of people that dine out. Pubs that do supply food normally have a small number of diners relative to drinkers. They now have to gear up for the possibility of having to serve meals to all drinkers but as the drinkers have to leave as soon as they finish eating they probably won't bother. Tapas has been suggested and been blocked as a workaround. We have two distinct groups. The working men are usually all gone by 8. They drift off individually., no groups on the streets. Evenings are populated by darts and pool players. Like the working men, the evening customers will also have no interest in eating. They will have eaten before coming out. They tend to be older and usually arrive and leave individually. In between lockdowns we had given up darts to create seating space. The pool table was used for seating but opened for play twice a week with players wearing masks Not one of my customers has tested positive. I have mentioned before that some of them are known to the authorities as being hard to handle but they accepted everything we introduced without opposition. The Government has, at a stroke, removed an outlet for responsible people to have a breather on the way home and to have a civilised night out. Not to mention creating a worrying situation for everyone in the pub industry. Dedicated restaurants are OK, this is good for them as the restrictions fit their business model. At best we can open 16th December until next lockdown which will probably be the first week in January. The Pub Landlord is not a happy man.
Commiserations, PL. Sounds like a good old-fashioned pub. You and your regulars are paying the price for the idiots who don't know how to behave elsewhere.
Thanks. Unfortunately we have a Wetherspoons quite close by which exactly fits the stereotype of drunkenness, fighting and a rabble on the streets. It's hard to see this ending well.
Moronic insanity https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-55116470 Over 150 arrests in anti-lockdown protests in the West End of London. That's far more arrests than there would have been if every football game today had a full crowd attending. Protesting is a right, though it is dodgy enough in these terrible times. But enough violence to require 150 arrests? And hundreds of officers having to risk infection as well as injury? Those responsible should be severely punished.
