I can’t get my head round why the championship is allowed 9 players on the bench but League’s one and two still 7. Can’t help feeling that, had he took an ineffective Wyke and a knackered Gooch off, we would have won that game yesterday. PP needs to go.
Even Parkinson must know Wyke's sole purpose, in the last 30 minutes, was to occupy defenders, hold onto the ball and allow us to move the play up the pitch. In reality he was virtually irrelevant, gave the ball away repeatedly and allowed Doncaster to keep the pressure on. I've done my utmost to keep faith with him but he's just not putting in the work or doing the basics well enough. I don't expect much from him, as he's a very limited player, but he should wake up ashamed this morning.
With 5 subs. Graham, Diamond and Embleton for the three up top on 65 mins would have made sense. gooch had a knock and Maguire and Wyke were blowing through their arse. We threw the game away yesterday through disgraceful game managment. Any doubts about Parkinson were removed yesterday. He has to go if we are to have any chance of promotion this season. We are playing with the handbrake on.
Absolutely! It’s the basic balls into his feet bouncing off him either straight to the other team or out of play, some of it yesterday I had to laugh or I would have cried! He is by far the worst striker I have seen play for us, literally offers nothing at all and to think he is our main striker is even worse.
I guarantee Sanderson would've put in a better second half in that position. I kept hearing my old Sunday League manager while I was watching ... ... "Keep moving around, don't stop, pull the defenders out wide, hold the ball like it's the last lifebelt." FFS, Wyke will never score from receiving the ball from a clearance. He's incapable of wining the ball, turning the defender, losing him and beating the keeper in a one on one. So wtf is Parkinson thinking ffs. The two central defenders will always stay where they were so it's much better for Wyke to pull out wide where he's giving the full back a problem. The full backs will, when chasing a goal, push up if they're allowed to which is exactly what happened yesterday.
I was there for Angle first game, Barnsley away on a Friday night, it was like been in a sandstorm, as there stadium was getting done and the dust was blowing straight at us.
What was ironic was that the dinosaur was on total sport on Friday night saying how it was better that we now have 5 subs as gives him options. He then proceeds to wait 82 mins and brings Embleton on and then on 91 mins brings Power on. Changes should of been on at around 55 mins. How that useless lump Wyke stayed on is unreal. People say we the result is what we should expect now as we are poor etc. I stick by that we should be getting more from these players with a competent manager who can manage in game situations and who wants to put teams to the sword and not defend a 1 nil. He has to go asap.
The conundrum for the owners with regard to Parky ...is if this "take-over" has been agreed as speculated...then Donald really won't have a say in his dismissal. The other factor for the New owners..is how long do you allow the current demise to go on. The club is desperate for clarity, direction and focus....something we lack in every aspect right now
As soon as he took off Maguire and Gooch the press stopped and they were allowed a foothold in the game. Wyke was knackered and after his track back to the right full back position that was him goosed for the rest of the game should have been subbed. We are winning 1-0 away from home last 5 minutes we should have emptied the bench as simple time wasting measure disrupt the game even the best managers in the world do this.
Even if the takeover is a week away we would be better off sacking him today and getting literally anyone to take over for even 1 game. PP gone in itself might see the payers get a boost.
I remember Allardyce would bring Watmore on towards the end of games to use his pace to stretch teams and try and get us a foothold further up the pitch, we know Watmore's limitations but this was really effective, a totally different mentality.
Couldn't agree more mate. A shocking display of game management from one of the worst Sunderland managers ever to hold the post. The sooner he is gone, the better for all concerned.
Basic game management - disrupt the flow of the game - we see it countless times at the SOL at this level. We are grinding out results this season as we have not got an attack the game management has to be better - play the channels and the touchline - make a meal of every knock and use the full bench to run the clock - not pretty but needs must. It would not surprise me if Graham is on an appearance /performance deal and because we are skint PP is not allowed to bring him on.
If and when this takeover goes through Parkinson will be gone, as the only reason Donald appointed him in the first place was that he was cheap, would not mind having no money to spend and is a yes man. These "qualities" won't be in the job description for the new owners.
This issue re PP's subs has cost us points continuously. Looking back to the 2-2 draw with Gillingham just before lockdown we took the lead on 83 minutes courtesy of a goal from the underused Lafferty and were in the ascendency. The next 2 subs were Maguire off on 85 minutes, who was playing well at the time for Scowen who used in a more defensive midfield role. Hume was then taken off on 89 minutes for the plank Lynch which completely stopped us from getting down the left, which Hume was doing up to that point and invited pressure onto us. Lynch coming on meant we had 3 centre halves playing and I don't think anyone knew what their role was as it was a case of chuck on a defender and see what happens. Indeed I recall Lynch challenged one of our own players in the build up to Mandron's equaliser. He might have even moved Gooch to left wing back in Hume's spot. Basically changes that were a complete mess and invited pressure on.
I think we were a bit unlucky in that game personally it was a lovely finish by Mandrin, but despite that it's the constant need to win games by the skin of your teeth that sets us up to drop points, successful teams in league one don't do that, they win games 3-1 and the lose the nest one 4-0 then win the next 2 games 5-2 and 4-1, it's old fashioned football and it's a bit Sunday league but you can't then start expecting clean sheets all season unless you have absolutely outstanding defensive unit.
