....... so it shouldn't be a great shock to us that it is finally happening.

Lets be honest, we felt like it was "them" against "us", but we loved it because we proved them wrong season after season, well .. maybe they were actually right all along and we were lucky that the inevitable simply took 7 years longer than predicted.

  2. Well Mr Head by 7 years I presume you are referring to The Invincibles.

I think initially we had the safety net of the likes of Henry, Flamimini and Pires still with us for a few years after 2004 and when they left, the young wonder kids were just beginning to come into their own. Of course we had Ade in combo with RvP as our striking force and Ade scored 30 goals in 2008 which helped a lot. That we largely relied on the youth program since then and without input, cover and guidance from experienced players or in fact adequate leadership and motivation was our downfall. Throw in the absence of both a Plan B and a defensive strategy and I think there's a recipe for disaster. Having even a talent like Cesc Fabregas on board was clearly not enough. More often than not, there were just too many missing links.

Thus for me the wider picture is one of ineptitude in strategic planning on the sporting side. For whatever constraints may have been placed on Arsene with respect to buying in players, there are areas which were under his control but in respect of which he allowed to run out of control.

I remember when we finally sold Vieira .. that was the beginning of the end of Arsenal.

Can't agree with that, we almost won the CL with a young Fabregas in his place. There have been many errors but arguably selling Paddy V could be viewed as the right decision at the time. Many more costly mistakes have taken us to this unenviable position.

The media and pundits have claimed we'd fall backwards after we sold Vieira and pretty much every year since they predicted Arsenal wouldn't do so well but we did.

Now alas .. the predictions seem to have come true, that is what I am talking about.

I agree with you on your point of us going backwards but this for me would have happened regardless of whether we sold Patrick or not, you have not made the correlation between the 2 and are merely using this as a symbolic sign of the impending or indeed current downward spiral that we seem to be in.

Anyway, lets all lighten up, roll on 5pm..

    Aye, you're not wrong.

What I am getting at is, we've been so against the media and pundits for saying we would become weaker and not challenge and yet .. here we are now .. albeit 6 or 7 years later than predicted. So the "I told you so" crew were .. essentially right.
