Loved this awayday ... Only 5 shots on target but got 6 as the other was an OG Wolves outplayed us in a way but we scored at will and sang Ring of Fire after each goal Guy in an empty row in front of us had clearly gone for the disco biscuit snack option at half time and danced the whole 2nd half with his shirt off. Then when we scored the 6th he stripped completely. The stewards were staring at him clearly thinking “I’m not going near him”

I just remember after about 20 minutes of being battered by Wolves, “Please Saints somehow hang on for a draw here, so the little man doesn’t get upset on his first away game.” 0-6 Before the game we met my Wolves mate and his lad in a Wolves pub near the ground. My lad walked into the pub in full 5 year old kit. It was brilliant! What a day.

Dear old Campbell, RIP I was there when he broke his leg against Liverpool, and Dave Webb had to go in goal. Such a pity he had less than a season in the top flight with us after helping to get us there.
I hope that when fans are allowed back, ours have more understanding that the back pass is a choice and not an example of being negative. Too many people got on player’s backs for that last year.
Let's hope that analysis isn't used by the opposition. Seeing the wider view. I would be saying 'no get it forward', now realising the rationale after seeing the key pass forward often after drawing the opposition into thinking they could press.
Their video isn’t rocket surgery. You don’t have to be a brain scientist to see the plan in action, both with and without the ball. It is a clear explanation of what’s going on though. Earlier this summer I was talking about PEHs long passes back to the keeper after moves slowed down and how it didn’t mean he was a negative player, it was a tactical choice. Ralph said that he wants shots on goal within a certain time of taking possession. You either move from back to front securely and at speed or you force opposition errors high through pressing and transition to shooting opportunities. The backwards moves are what happens if the first two aren’t possible or there are only low percentage passes. When it goes back to the keeper the opposition press and make space, as stated, but they also allow us to play long and over the top. This might concede possession but it does mean we can use our attack to force errors from uncomfortable defenders. I’ve lost count of how many direct scoring chances we’ve created from attacking player turnovers in the opposition third. We don’t mind giving it away if we’re giving it away far, far from danger and in an area where we can cause pressure and difficulty. If one of our CM players misses a pass through the midfield zones to Ings or Redmond, then teams can break with between 3-6 players at speed against us.
and the year before that and the year before that and the year before that and the year before that and the year before that and the year before that and the year before that...
Not sure this is something unique to Saints fans - I have been at plenty of other games where fans moan about this - especially England! The only time I really understand it is if you are chasing the game and it is late on - as then it can be worth the risk playing a pass that looks as though it may not quite be on. In fact I find the whole "we lose at home because of fan negativity" to be a bit simple. Saints fans are no worse now than they were under Puel/Pelligrino/Hughes - yet we didn't see a major difference between home and away results then. I get it doesn't help matters - but I think the turn-around post-lockdown was more due to the time Ralph has to work on & perfect plans rather than lack of fans.
