The super carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, is set to be sent out to the South China Sea next year.
This is believed to be in response to the rising tensions caused by Beijing clamping down on democracy and free speech in Hong Kong.
Not sure what the aim is, (political posturing that appeals to the readers of the right wing media is my guess) as it is said that owing to delays in ordering, instead of having 36 war planes on board, it will have just 16 - and 8 of those belong to the US Marine Corp.
Former First Sea Admiral Lord West says that “The likelihood of war is far greater now”.
I hope he is over reacting and is using this way of speech as a means to pressure the government into getting more planes built, in order to get the ship up to the correct number it was designed for, but I think this government has enough on it’s plate without it trying to create a “patriotic” distraction.
