Ah well, the days when people played it for the love of the game are gone, but could be back. And it wouldn't be a pauper's league whatever because I expect there would still be interest in TV rights, just not Billions in order to show games
Yeah I’m not saying it as a negative thing, just trying to look at it objectively. If you were late 20s/early 30s and had made a fortune I can see why you would choose to retire. In the long run it might be better though (big thing being how much you get paid of course, but I’d still imagine it being a good amount)
Posted on “Saints Stuff”, but valid here too. I’m relieved as I think he would have sat on the bench or been played out of position.
Why would anyone chose to watch something like this ? I seem to recall Wenger's Arsenal getting tonked at St Mary's a few Christmases back and the presenter from Arsenal who looked like Howard from the Halifax adverts having a similar rant which was equally ridiculous. As much as I like to see Saints beat the likes of City, United and Liverpool, there is something that can quite be matched about the smugness you feel when we beat Arsenal. I agree that Arsenal fans have an elevated opinion of their team but my over-riding impression of them is how popular the team was in France during Wenger's tenure even though they had nothing to do with London. A "typical" Arsenal is as likely to come from France as from London. l I have friends and colleagues who come from London who are genuine Arsenal supporters but I do feel they probably have the highest number of "plastic" supporters in the Premier League. It just seems an unoriginal team to support and, as stated, the fury directed against the team since the club's demise under the last years of Wenger is immensely satisfying. More than any other supporters, Arsenal fans have become a parody of themselves. The stuttering rejuvenation of Man Utd has been such an amusing trope since the departure of Ferguson that the sinking fortunes of Arsenal have gone somewhat overlooked. Are they still a "Top Six" club anymore ?
If I paid a player a fortune to keep himself available and fit for matches In difficult times I would be mildly pissed off with him.
It'll be interesting if Liverpool decide to punish him. Not that a small fine will be any hardship for him, mind.
What punishment would affect him? He has so much money it would have to be multiple weeks pay to impact him. Sit him some games? If they want to do stupid things, I don’t see much they can really do about it.
