Two years ago we won the Championship with three recognised CBs, 2 of whom, Klose and Hanley, were injury prone, plus a promising youngster most of you thought was a midfielder not a central defender. Our FBs in the opening game were Ben Marshall and James Husband, and the only backup any of us knew anything about was Ivo Pinto. Last minute signings prompted by "worst case" worries seldom turn out well -- if players are available at that stage of a window the obvious question is why.
Actually there are welcome signs that some lessons have been learned, one being that, if you regularly leave your CBs exposed you will concede goals however good the CBs are. We now have a genuine DM in Skipp, a defensively better and disciplined LB in Quintilla, and RB (Aarons) showing much improved awareness of when to stay back or go forward. Factor in the admirable Rupp and we have the makings of a far more solid rearguard than in previous seasons. One lesson we don't seem to have learned, however, is that, against canny opponents who defend deep, it's sometimes better to settle for 1 point rather than over-committing in search of three.
Gunn went to Stoke on loan, I was hoping to get a new keeper in in case Krul gets suspenjured but Angus wants minutes and is probably on high wages. So 2 centre backs with injury problems and a 3rd on loan who hasn't played for 2 season.
City have released Academy player Charlie Gilmour who they signed from Arsenal in 2019 before sending him out to Holland on loan https://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/spo...-arsenal-midfielder-charlie-gilmour-1-6889681
