The world feels like a slightly better place. Reason, decency, intelligence, compassion, equality and basic manners are all massive winners in all of this. The lunatics have lost control of the asylum. Regardless of politics, unless you're a flagrant fascist, you have to be happy today.
A weight lifted from my shoulders here in rural east Texas. Married for 40 years, my wife has pre-existence conditions, only health insurance we can get is ACA, costs us $10000 a year with huge deductibles, no tax rebates, thanks to republicans starving Obamacare. It was is/very close to being a matter of being of life and death for my wife, remove her health care during an out of control pandemic. Thank God trump is out, and praise the Lord I am 60+ years a Sunderland supporter.
Watched both speeches live this morning. Both me and Mrs EJK said that Joe and Kamala projected themselves so much better than Trump. The scary thing is that we all know he won’t go quietly. He reminds me of a spoilt little boy who spits the dummy when he doesn’t get his own way. I would hope that someone takes him to one side and tells him to bow out with some semblance of dignity, but somehow I doubt it.
I don't think he will have much of a choice. The right wing media have gone off him. Judges in courts have already said that he has no base for a challenge. Senior republicans have already distanced themselves from his nonsense. I'd be curious to see how his voter base is doing after he has gone on the attack this week, I'd think it has shrunk somewhat. I think he is done. He might grasp, but no one is going to take it seriously.
The world seems like a better and safer place this morning somehow. I still fear that civil unrest may happen in the US in the coming weeks, but it will pass and life will go on without the hate, bigotry and division that has torn that nation apart.
It was a little unsettling seeing the seething evangelism of the Trump supporters on the streets. It was reminiscent of German people slavishly accepting whatever the Fuhrer told them, I fully expected to see them burning books and denouncing anyone who didn't fit their 'master race' credentials. I mean, the man decided to build a wall to separate one country from another ffs, how did people go along with that When ordinary people start defending anything and everything their idols say, and do, it starts to resemble a personality cult which is never a good thing. We've seen it with our current PM whereby people will always excuse him no matter how bizarre his behaviour. 'Hide from reporters in a walk in fridge during an election campaign - no problem, he's just a loveable character'. Trump is a nasty man who's been booted out by someone who shouldn't really get the gig because of his age. But I believe the Trump hysteria has waned and people just want a period of calm. Let's hope the Trump cult members can gracefully accept the democracy their country is supposed to be built on.
I wonder if Melania will get her son a fair share of any money that Drumpf (original family name) has and whether like his other wife is forced to sign a gagging order in the divorce.
Did anybody see the BBC try to get a word with Joe Biden? He looked at them and said 'I'm Irish' and then walked off.
No losing side does that. Look at Brexit, calls and actions for the vote to be void or re-run by people who voted to remain.
God bless you and your wife Texas, today is the first day of hope that America can return to normality and help the world through covid, climate, security and trade agreements
Unfortunately we still have 70 odd days of this right wing lunatic!! The amount of damage he will do to the free world in his strop is anyone's guess.
I'd expect he's a bit busy at the moment mind ... ... foreign news reporters don't get much time with Boris, even when there's no fridge to hide in.
Surely the US authorities will see this and put extraordinary measures in place to prevent him. Their mental health act is surely one way they could do this.
