That Downfall speech was the best thing that could have happened. A US politics thread I am gone was roughly 50/50 prior to it. Since then I think there has been one post that was pro Trump ( Actually just a foot stamping rant) But what it has done is prevented any support he still had being voiced. Media, politicians and by extension judges have realised they are dealing with a fruit loop. Best he look fir somewhere safe to go. I understand the Manhattan prosecutor is gunning for him. At least the boiler suit will match his complexion!

Sainsbury’s said to be paying out £231 million in dividends, after having received business rates rebates, so far, of £230 million. Just my opinion, but I don’t think any company that has received financial support from the public purse should be paying out dividends. Used to work for Sainsbury's over a 5 year period from 2011-2016. It was honestly one of the most miserable experiences of my existence so far, their approach to employees can be outright hostile at times and a good deal of senior store managers behave like mini Trumps. You tend to progress based on your ability to deflect blame as oppose to actual management skill. Just one fun example I can remember. As a Team Leader you were expected to work unpaid overtime as an unspoken / unwritten rule i.e. you can leave whenever you want, but if you go before your job is done you will face the consequences. 'Your job' would often involve being given hour long tasks to do with 10 mins of your shift left, but if you don't complete the task in time it would be down to your time management.... The only thing I can say in their defence is that this is probably regular practice in all supermarket chains. Am I bitter? Yes, very.

I was a Department Manager with Sainsbury’s for 10 VERY long years, during the 90s. Everything you say is true. I was fortunate enough to be made redundant, during one of their reshuffles, and as I didn’t get on with the store manager I knew I was in line for going. Being proactive I had already applied for jobs and had interviews and was literally unemployed for just a few hours, due to a job offer coming through on the day I was “escorted from the branch” after having been made redundant. I got a level of revenge though. As I was being paid up to the end of the month, I was still effectively an employee, so I logged a formal complaint against the store manager, a bit about him going awol to see his bit on the side during work hours, a bit about how he had his deputy managers covering these absences by lying to the Area Manager about him not taking his calls because he “was busy with a customer” then ringing him to get him to call the AM back, and another bit about how he allowed company property (phones) to be left in the local bookies for football scores and race results. End result was that the manager was removed from Lordshill store and punished by being put into the Winton branch, the smallest on the district at the time. When the Area Personnel Manager called me to tell me the result of my complaint, he asked if I was satisfied with the outcome. My reply was “No. If a trolley boy had abused his position in the same way, he would likely be sacked. For someone with the ultimate responsibility for a major store to do this, it should have been instant dismissal as it was a complete abuse of trust.” Your last sentence is pretty accurate too, about it applying to all supermarkets. Waitrose was once held up as being the best to work for, but even they have gone the same way.
