If Trump somehow prevails by cheating his way back in it will make a mockery of America being "the land of the free".
Trump won Florida by branding Democrats as socialists. a) The Democrats version of socialism is more akin to our Liberal Democrats. b) Many believe communism is the same thing as socialism - even the watered down Democrat version of it. So the first generation immigrants may have understandable hatred towards Communism, but it is not understandable how that makes the Democrats the enemy, or why it is still passed onto the next generations, it is just blind prejudice, stirred by media and Republican propaganda.
Wouldn't bank on it, Tom. I know it’s illegal/unconstitutional etc, but since when has that stopped him?
+ the fact when the Democrats realized the importance of the Hispanic vote , they did far to little , far far to late .
He could well be in jail, just deserts. https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2020-trump-faces-lawsuits-and-legal-threats/
Not sure they can charge a sitting president without an impeachment and the Republicans are too far up his arse to do that .....
We can look at our own communities for that - in Northern Ireland for many generations, within the UK at large, the prejudice of 17 million regarding the EU. Add to that where large swathes vote Conservative and have done since the 1830s. South Hampshire being but oñe example.
It's now looking good for Biden. Real good. He's leading in Wisconsin and has almost entirely reeled Trump in over in Michigan, with many votes to be counted still. If things remain on course with the current trends, Pennsylvania won't even matter.
You have to try to win with the hand you are dealt, so every voter not reached is a lost opportunity. On the other hand, the mere idea that you would even have to”outreach” to tell someone Trump is bad means all logic is thrown out of the window. I have no idea how to convince people who are racist that they shouldn’t be racist, or people how to reason with people who absolutely refuse to use reason. So It’s a pretty tricky job convincing people. And honestly, I am way past the point of wanting to outreach to people who voted Trump. I don’t want to compromise. What I really want is them out of my country.
According to the BBC in Florida 60% of Hispanic voted for Biden and 89% from the Black community. So the vote is mostly guided by the older whiter populace - interesting splits going on there. It would be interesting to know the actual size of those groups.
Leaving aside the electoral college for a moment, Biden has opened up a gap of 2.5m in the popular vote nationwide. That gap could reach out to around 4m or further, if things fall Biden's way. It becomes a lot harder for Trump to contest the result if he is losing on both fronts and there's a real clear margin in the popular vote.
In a sane world, yes. But a big part of me also thinks it would not matter if Biden won by 4 million or 40 million. The right will not concede the election, and they control power disproportionately in the courts. If Biden wins, which it looks like he will, I guess I will breathe a sigh of relief for now. But it’s not over. Even if Biden is officially named President. What we have learned, I think, is there is a cultural war in the US. The election wasn’t decided on policy or personal feelings about the candidates. That’s not going away. I think the far left here will be worse as well. I think they have constructed a scenario in their minds where they could blame a loss on Democrats and Biden. But I think now it is apparent Sanders would have been obliterated. They see now what they are up against and how heard it is for them to win an election. So they’re going to use other means.
Trump tweets again. Oh Donald, let’s debunk this one too. You were ahead because the Republicans blocked requests from these states to count the postal votes before the walk up votes on election day, because you wanted to create this lazy narrative to mask the fact that you were always losing.
Georgia has been blue for at least four years. It’s the one state where the GOP cheats egregiously and it’s just that Republicans don’t care and people can’t stop them. I think the GOP cheats in other areas as well, but who can quantify how many votes were suppressed by vague policies? And there are situations where Democrats want votes counted that I’m like “Yeah, no. That’s a little sketchy.” I feel in the end, Dems lose more votes than they would if elections were more legit but it’s just a feeling. But in GA in NC, the GOP straight out cheat. I don’t know that NC has the votes for the Democrats to win there anyway, but Georgia definitely does.
