Oh, and it think it is a bloody shame that people are using this as a "yeah, bruce will be out soon" thread, rather than thanking SNQ for the great job he has done since he took over and ensuring SAFC had a credible leadership that is recognised, at least nationally, as one been one of the best, if not the best, in England. Regardless of who is manager, SAFC is respected throughout the premier league and footballing world and this is all down to Sir Niall. Thanks for your time as chairman Niall, and hope you can bring our club the international recognition it deserves.
I can only see good in this move. Short is wanting to take control of his ship. I reckon some of this is down to the managerial situation in a 'if you aren't prepared to I will' kind of way. I reckon Bruce has Arsenal, Bolton and Villa to prove to Short that he's got what it takes to turn the season around. I bet his arse is twitching good and proper tonight. I hope his excuses get his to sleep tonight.
Nial Quinn said when he took on the job that it was not long term, 5 years was mentioned. That was about 5 years ago. I think it's a good thing that we have a successful business man looking after that day to day running of the club especially as Ellis Short pointed out in his statement the forthcoming introduction of the financial fair play rules.
It sounds as though this is a challenge that Quinn wants rather than removed from his post Put it this way if Short was telling Quinn he was no longer Chairman and Quinn was not happy Quinn would **** off to City I still say Bruce has untill xmas I look at things slowly and try to annalise If i get kicked in the balls instead or rubbing them i count the buggers first. Also the players still seem to be behind bruce
I don't think Bruce will be given an immediate boot, but the pressure just got stepped up 1000% (If that was possible!). No more Mr nice guy as chairman, old hat excuses will no longer be accepted or sit well with Short. Pretty sure he didn't get where he is in business by suffering fools gladly. I don't think Quinny ever had it in him to sack Bruce therefore tonight's decision is an acceptable exit strategy for all parties concerned. Plenty of people reckon Quinn will move to City soon, we'll see. Pretty sure Short will be asking why gates are down (and dropping), why the team isn't performing and how to better his return on investment starting with results!
The one person who this is definately bad news for is undoubtedly Bruce. No matter what spin is put on this new development (and there's been a few) Bruce would surely prefer to deal directly with NQ as opposed to Ellis Short ie for transfer targets etc... IMO we will now see less and less of NQ in the months ahead and Short now wants to be more hands on and "sort things" out...his way. He has been sitting back over the last few years and learning the ropes so to speak and now feels he wants more value for his money mebbies? Hopefully he sacks Bruce in next few days and gets someone in before the next game...At least somethings happening as opposed to NOTHING! Lets see what happens over next couple of weeks as I think this is only the start!...
A dignified response to a very great man who deserves it. Heartfelt thanks, Niall, for all the effort and sincerity you offered us. I can't ever tell you how much it was appreciated. Now ... go sell us, boy - GO!
I think that this is a great move, it means that we have possibly the most charismatic Irishman as, from what I can see, a representative of the club overseas, We have a man who obviously has outstanding business nouse as the head, and possibly Bruce going. Good decision all around, imo.
Thank you Niall you have done a tremendous job and without you we would be playing league 1 football not finishing 10th in the EPL. From Shorts point if view he will love Bruce, a manager who is not costing him much money in terms of transfers and wages, a guy who does not kick up a fuss and is probably not costing a fortune himself. Everyone is looking at this from their point of view, look at it from Shorts, this is a business, he is not even a football fan. I expect him to invest now in order to get us to the next level, he has become chairman so he and Bruce can work together to get the right players in Jan. I think this has been on the cards since the end of last year. I have been researching Shorts business dealing and will post my educated guess on what happens next when I get home later.
The clock has started to tick for Bruce..about time too. Short is an astute businessman...why would he want to see one of his companies go into financial freefall. I have nothing but good words for Quinny, he is a legend here, but his steadfast support of this hapless manager has probably cost him the chairmanship of Sunderland. Next week or two should be well interesting now.
I'm frankly rather surprised at people's naivete on this announcement. What has happened to Miliband? Bruce is under pressure and has been for a while. Quinn has stuck with him regardless and Short has had enough. Time for a change. It's a way for Quinny to leave with his head held high. A fine man, hugely admired and adored I dare say, but a football chairman he is not. This is a wonderfully played out piece of PR but has little to do with the motives, intentions or discussions which preceded it.
my take on it is that quinn reccommended bruce and probably wont want to have to honour of sacking him, that would be seen as a failing on his part, therefore steps into new role, ellis assumes total leadership, sacks bruce, problem solved, martin oneill in in next few weeks!!!
I was being sarcastic about Milliband, mate, not naive. I can assure you that I am quite capable of seeing through this spin. Cheers.
I that case, my profuse apologies and acknowledgement of your comment about vanishing in 6 months as probably being spot on.
No worries wherewereyou. Brother Flanders said "The clock has started to tick for Bruce..about time too. I have nothing but good words for Quinny, he is a legend here, but his steadfast support of this hapless manager has probably cost him the chairmanship of Sunderland. Can you take that useless **** Elmo with you anarl mate. I know he scored at the weekend but one swallow doesn't make a blow job does it?
Does anyone really think Shorts first decision will be to sack Bruce? I dont but I feel more confidant now that if the nezt few results aren't up to standard then Short will do what's right and in the best interests of the club and remove Bruce from his post. Bruce for me is becoming like Gordon Brown in his last 6 months as leader of the labour party, it was obvious that they'd lose the election with him at the helm and if they'd got shot and brought someone new in they'd have had a goof shot.
