I have indeed read it, Eye is usually ahead of the game. Cronyism in the awarding of government contract has been reported in the Eye for weeks, but is now reaching the popular press. The most recent revelation is that the Vaccine Task Force is to be headed by a venture capitalist, with no experience of vaccines, whose only qualification is that she is married to a government minister.
The Donald has announced that if he wins he will sack Dr Fauci, the country's leading expert on Covid. His next step may be to announce a fatwa against whoever he takes a dislike to whenhe wakes up ready to take to Twitter.
And thereby lies the problem...getting people to accept a vaccine that is to say the least, hurried. In 17 years they haven't found one for SARS. As I said, might as well party while we have the chance.
2nd November update: No good news in the figures. Lockdown in England begins on Thursday 5th November. If it works, figures should begin to drop around the 3rd week of November.
Then figures won't begin to drop. But however much you'd like it to be, this isn't Sweden. Sweden and the UK could scarcely be more different as countries. We are much more similar to Germany - where casualties have been kept much lower by more collective discipline and compliance with rules, not behaving as though the pandemic doesn't exist. More people live in London than live in Sweden. I should think London generates more wealth than the whole of Sweden as well. We don't have the luxury of behaving like them, because the UK is an economic powerhouse - the 5th largest economy in the World - second only to Germany in Europe. Sweden is the 23rd largest economy in the world (only the 8th largest in Europe) with a lower GDP than Switzerland. In this country (and other very large industrial nations) we will never beat the pandemic by just ignoring it. However much you may desire that approach, it is never going to happen. I believe the infection and death rate figures will begin to drop within 2-3 weeks here. But if they do not, then lockdown measures will be tightened. And tightened again if necessary, until the numbers do begin to drop.
Japan seem to have done well on Covid according to their figures , what have they done differently..?
For the good of the thread I have deleted the last 17 posts. An unseemly row between myself and Sandman added nothing useful to the debate. I regret contributing to it, and accept my half of the responsibility for it. Time to move on...
I deleted 17 posts in the other thread because they were simply an unpleasant spat between the two of us. They added nothing to the thread or the forum, which you rightly pointed out is a great place to relax after a busy day. I won't continue that argument here or anywhere else. I respectfully ask if you can also not pursue it any further. It was not helping in any way.
I wasn't rowing...I was posting funny stuff. Tip: Listen to happy people...they are happy for a reason.
You were right about this forum being a good place to relax and unwind after a stressful day. It should always remain that way. I'm off to get some sleep now. Another busy day tomorrow...
I'm guessing this is you just having a little more fun. As I said in the other thread, you are right to say this forum is a good place to relax after a stressful day. It was out of respect for that wise observation that I deleted the posts. I must go and get some sleep now, busy day tomorrow...
Thank you. I appreciate I've been taking two people rather too seriously in recent times; myself and you. But life is too short for all that nonsense. Time I lightened up a little.
Richard Littlejohn writes an article in the Daily Mail today with a vitriolic attack on the PM for giving in to "The Scientists" who, he says, have got everything wrong so far. He says that their charts and graphs are designed to bamboozle people. I would like him to explain why they would do such a malicious thing as deliberately bamboozle people. This kind of fantasy gives succour to people who like to dismiss anything too complicated for them to grasp, I know that Littlejohn is a good writer, but he should use his skills to a better end.
