Sunderland host Ipswich at the Stadium of Light in the Skybet League One.

Last time out Sunderland beat Gillingham and Ipswich beat Crewe.
Sunderland moved back into the League One play-off positions after picking up 3 points at the Priestfield stadium.
There are a few defensive concerns with Sanderson and Willis having treatment this week on knee injuries with Willis needing an injection in the near future. Benji Kimpioka suffered a hamstring injury for the U23s and could be out for 6-8 weeks.
The Black Cats will be looking to follow up the good win away at Gillingham with another victory against promotion rivals Ipswich Town.
Oli Hawkins' first goal for Ipswich was enough to beat Crewe and move the Tractor Boys into the second promotion spot on 22 points along with leaders Peterborough and third place Lincoln.
    Phil Parkinson:
“A great win for us, always a difficult place to come Gillingham, especially the way the conditions were and the style of play that Gillingham go about their business.“
“I thought we got the balance pretty much spot on today, when we’ve competed but when it was time to play, we’ve played and we created some good chances and Scowen alone could have had a hat-trick today.”
“We kept probing, probing and probing and eventually we got our rewards, possibly should have been more comfortable on the day but it was another fantastic away performance.”
“I thought Grant ticked us over really well in midfield”
“It was asking a bit much of Dion to play today after making his debut and not having much football under his belt. We have to nurse Jordan (Willis) through the next couple of weeks with his patella injury”
"Elliot Embleton played for the U23s last night (Friday) and scored two goals, Callum McFadzean got 45 minutes and did well, and players like those are going to be important for us."

    Paul Lambert:
"We rode our luck at times but also defended well and stuck at it. I'm pleased for Oli [Hawkins] getting on the scoresheet.”
"He's done so well for us and deserves that goal. He's a better player than people give him credit for.
"I've been in football matches where we've deserved to win and not got anything, and I've seen games where we haven't deserved the win but got all three points - that's football.”
“We'll rest up tomorrow then get out on the training pitch for a tough game at Sunderland on Tuesday.”

    Injured: tbc

    Betting Odds:
    Home
    10/11 Away 14/5 Draw 12/5

    My two pence:
After a good win at Gillingham we need to keep it going now and a win against the Tractor Boys will put us right up there in striking distance of the top two with a game in hand. I’d love to see Diamond & Embleton at least on the bench. Wyke and O’Brien didn’t do a great deal on Saturday so maybe it’s time to try something different.
    I’m going for a 2-1 home win.

Home win, as you suggest we have to at least try a different pair of strikers.

Not seen that anywhere - scored his first goal since he signed from Pompey.

Based upon our performance on Saturday I believe we'll lose to any decent team. If Ipswich are on form they'll win, but I've heard they were lucky to win themselves on Saturday.

"Callum McFadzean got 45 minutes and did well"

    Anyone know anything about him?

Never mind, he's the new LB thought he was a youth player.

Great thread as usual RTB sets the scene perfectly, another game, another test, still no sign of a settled line up only adds to the mix. <ok>

They were lucky, they only had 6 shots with 3 on target (Crewe had 14 & 7)

Yeah I forgot about him, he'll probably get a place on the bench ahead of one of the youngsters.

I'm going for a 4-1 win. I think that Tuesday night is the night!!!! Don't know why, just think that we are due to give someone a thrashing.

Got to be winning home games against other promotion rivals to finish top two and need a win to keep the old 2 points a game average going. Only thing that worries me is when we've had these opportunities before we've dropped a bollock and we can't do that this season. Home win for me, and if we don't, that's massive pressure on Parky there.

    Cracking thread mate, seriously good.

The way the games have fallen we could actually end up a point or two off top which seems strange considering the general mood. I don't know if it was the way we've played, the lockdown or the takeover saga but it just seems weird. A good performance and convincing win could change all that of course.

I think we have a real player in Sanderson and hope we find a place for him. I think he could play higher up the field at this level tbh.

Mcfadzean is probably a better defender than Hume who could cause some real damage if his starting point was higher.

I'm just desperate to see the whole team playing in their half and look like we have real attacking intent. The only time we looked better than Gillingham was when we passed the ball down the wings and got balls in. It's pointless trying to match L1 teams at the lumpy stuff when we have a centre forward who's not a battler. He seems to be OK at finding space, close in, so that's where balls need to come in, not launched at him which he can't cope with.

At 1-0 up against 10 men we were sitting back when Gooch broke. Against teams with height that becomes an absolute lottery. Pass these teams to death ffs.

3-2 to Sunderland and another goal for Gooch.

    Phil Parkinson Injury Update:
"It's good news because we've got no new injuries from the weekend, so everyone is available for selection,” Parkinson said.
"I'm pleased for Elliot. He's had a 45 and now a 60 minutes for the U23s and we are just building him up gradually and taking our time with him.
"I've looked at his goals against Villa on the video, he did really well and we're glad he is progressing and is on track - it's good news for him.”
Sunderland did, however, suffer a separate injury blow in that game.
Benji Kimpioka was substituted with a hamstring problem in the second half of the contest, having made a superb start to his campaign.
The Swedish youngster has scored six times since finally settling a contract dispute earlier this summer, and while the Black Cats are waiting on the results of a scan, it’s believed that he is facing a battle to play again this year.
"Benji played for the U23s against Aston Villa on Friday night and came off with a hamstring injury,” Parkinson said.
"He's had a scan on it today and we are waiting to get the results through, probably tomorrow.
"It's a shame for him because he had been doing well for the U23s.”
Parkinson also offered an update on summer signing Arbenit Xhemajli, who has been ruled out for the season with a cruciate ligament injury.
Xhemajli successfully underwent surgery last week, and has now returned to the Academy of Light as he sets out on the long road to recovery.
"He was back at the Academy today, but of course he has a long road back to fitness ahead of him,” Parkinson said.
"It's a shame for him because he was so determined to make an impression over here after signing, he can still do that but he'll have to wait until next season now.”

Thanks to Phil Smith at the Echo <cheers>

I'm going for 1-1 for this. Gooch for us and I haven't got a clue who will score for the tractor boys. Does Chris Kiwomya still get a game for them.
