Just as a little aside I see Morrell is the bench again today as he was midweek.

We were 2nd to the ball all over the pitch today, Beaten by a better team, passing generally poor, Wells touch was way off, the only thing we are good at is retreating to our goalkeeper but even then Often squandering possession, confidence is low But I’m sure we will bounce back against Cardiff

You have more faith than I do, I can't see where the next win is going to come from, roll on the next international break, when apparently our 2 midfielders Messrs Williams and Walsh are due to back from their very mysterious injuries.

Disappointing result but to be honest I didn't think we played that badly. Probably one of our better performances of the season. Just undone at the back

We looked ok going forward, but please look at the 3 goals from the start of each move and explain where the press was as the 3 moves built up, you cannot give up that amount of territory and expect to keep clean sheets.

Don't disagree with this we had looked good at the back and not so good going forward in our last few games, roles reversed today. Just need to combine them in the same game :emoticon-0100-smile

Bet you’re more confused than ever today. Warnock v Hughton which one do you want more?

How disappointing for my first full match coverage of the season because all I saw was the usual garbage served up by City. We were never truly in with a shout and the defending on the first two goals was absolutely shocking which leads me to think that nobody at Ashton Gate has heard of Pukki and has even less knowledge of how to shut down his supply route and his lethal finishing. Vyner wasn't even in the same postcode as Pukki when the first went in and on the second you could claim an unlucky deflection but the fact remains the defending was poor.

It was almost like a time warp thing because today I saw all the reasons why we will not progress and I think I saw the ghost of managers past on the sidelines. How much longer must we endure this tepid mediocrity because until such time as we address all areas of our game plan we stand no chance of moving onward and upward. Two lousy points from the last possible fifteen sums it all up and unless we can improve that poor record we stand a good chance of heading south in this winter.

I saw absolutely nothing today that tells me we have improved any on seasons past and I'm sure that historical posts on this site will prove we are saying the same thing today as we did 3-4-5 years ago.

The more I see of Moore's positioning or effort to read and get back for 2 of their goals I bloody despair. Kalas was left between a devil and the deep blue sea.
I can't blame a 'non press' 50 or 60 yards from our goal.

I had my first ever flu shot yesterday and so far no side effects. It was important considering the covid19 possibilities although I live in a somewhat safer place out here on the island which has much reduced rates than the mainland. Get wq\ell soon John and like you my only compensation was getting the goal tally correct.

    Stay safe one and all.

You can't blame the fact that they moved the ball 50/60 yards, without one of our players being within 3 metres of them at any stage, looking to stop the build up?

My suggestion is we play a 5/5 formation and leave out midfield altogether, if we are not going to contest it.

Oh well, let's hope the gas don't get promoted as we will miss out on derby game.

Sorry to say three defensive errors l played in central defence if l couldn't deal with 40, 50, or 60yrd passes l would have packed in playing, three shocking pieces of defending, going forward we played well and should have got something out of the game, think Wells needs to find his shooting boots otherwise we really will struggle, mid table or below for me love to be proved wrong.

Only one came from a 40, 50, 60 yard pass, the guy who delivered that pass from his own half didn't have red shirt within 5 metres of him.

One came from a move where they passed the ball making progress from well into their own half and nobody got closer than 3 metres to them for the move, until Paterson got within 2 metres which is closing down for him.

The other came from a move in our half again nobody gets within 3 metres of them again.

Nobody could have even taken one for team in any of the goals, because nobody was close enough, unlike Norwich who had several players who took one for the team, to prevent a break.

2 came from pasess in their half 50 or 60 yards from our goal.
What your suggesting is impossible, you can't stop every player on the pitch from executing a pass. No doubt you can try but it's impossible, football's played on grass not on paper.
AD's correct, and as a defender myself, only Western League, I'd have been shot not defending a ball landing on the edge of the box from a ball played from their half.

Ps I do agree Patterson should have done better for their first, he's so weak.
But have look at Vyner, he should have been tight with his man Puki.
He got lost at Barnsley, not the same but similar. I look at Vyner and Moore as 'manufactured' defenders, they don't look 'natural' defenders to me.
    Hey, its about opinions.

There could have been more pressure on the ball. There could have been a higher line. The Keeper could sweep behind the high line.

If a team is not attempting to deny the opposition space they should drop and provide depth in a compact shape.

    Bristol City did neither.

The wing backs were not in relative positions to the ball or team mates. The centre backs were not narrowing down and holding a line. Central midfielders not filling in. Opinion. The team collectively was culpable. Structureless. Poor (very) either way.

Goal one, there was a 20 yard pass, that came back 10 yards into their own half, during the build up and there was a final 20 yard pass, Hunt should have been on Pukki, he was marking nobody, Vyner to be fair was watching one of the 2 players close to Kalas but the damage had already been done, there is absolutely no 50 or sixty yard passes. Take a look at Paterson and Odowda and even Brunt not one within 3 yards when the decisive pass is made to Pukki, no press whatsover and that was a patient build.

The only thing Vyner could have done differently considering that Hunt was effectively a statue, was maybe step up earlier leaving Pukki offside, a dangerous thing to do, I think he was entitled to believe that where Pukki made his run Hunt should have covered him.

Goal two, from a goal kick ball goes out right parallel with the edge of their 18 yard box, Paterson at least 4 yards away, 2 short balls up the line and then back 1o yards for 15 yard cross field pass, nobody within 3 yards during that passage of play, the player receiving the pass has nobody within 15 yards of him and the ball still 25 yards inside Norwich half, the player uses the whole of that 25 yards without anybody getting within 4 yards of him at any stage, (notice here there has been no mention of midfield whatsoever, because they are all wondering around like tits in a trance doing absolutely nothing to press the ball, in fact would say 4 yards is closest any of them got to ball for the entire move. Kalas is ball watching and Moore is out of position, when the 30 yard pass is put through to Pukki, the damage was already done, again no 50/60 yard pass. Another patient build.

Goal 3 did contain a 50/60 yard pass, Kalas was the wrong side of his man.

What I am suggesting is that for the first the build up was mainly in the Norwich half and then in ours and you are saying it's impossible to have pressed the ball at any stage of that move? and the 2nd is even worse it started from a goal kick and again you are suggesting that a press at any stage of that was move was impossible?

I will concede that the 3rd (the killer goal) that a press on the passer might be asking a bit much, however you do expect to see at least one midfielder somewhere in the frame, when we were trying to see out the last 20 seconds of the half.

None of the goals could be described as from a quick break, they were all patient precise build up's, the kind that should have been pressed.
