My nephew's class at school got sent home because of a positive result in their bubble. Nephew came home, spent the day doing what kids do and then slept in his bedroom that he shares with his brother. Next day, his brother goes off to school, already asymptomatically infected and promptly passed that onto his own class who of course are in a different bubble. That bubble is now sent home too. My brother, his wife and their oldest boy (who of course is in another bubble) have all tested positive now...good job we're kicking people out of the pubs at 10 though
That is true - I wouldn't think the app should be used by someone working in say a hospital either, as the fact is that hey will be near COVID patients but are protected by PPE. However, for the average man on the street I have no issue using the app. As Chilcs said, the app isn't the issue (in fact it is probably the only working part of the system) it is the human T&T system that isn't world beating at all.
I don’t know how many of you are aware of the tv presenter Kate Garraway, but her husband contracted the virus around 7 months ago. He is no longer on a ventilator and has just spoken his first word since having been in a coma. Sadly that first word, which he has since repeated, is “Pain”. I can’t imagine the despair his family must be going through. To have someone you love at death’s door and unable to communicate, for so long, only to now learn that he is in pain, must be heartbreaking. It also emphasises, if emphasis was needed, that this isn’t just “like flu”.
Lack of ability is no bar to high office with this regime, more of a requirement. Similar too qualifications for companies awarded contracts worth millions when having no experience whatsoever. I hope eventually various parliamentary committees will hold those responsible to account. Breath not being held.
I have read some scary figures, being put out by SAGE, regarding the number of Covid deaths being predicted. They include 500+ deaths per day, for 90 (NINETY) days, peaking at 800+ per day towards the end of February. It’s worth remembering, also, that SAGE advised, as early as mid September, that the government should implement a mini lockdown, to slow the rate at which the virus was spreading. Labour supported SAGE’s advice and suggested a 2 week lockdown over half term, only for Johnson to come out with one of his “hilarious” put downs by likening a lockdown to Hotel California, and accusing Labour of trying to politicise the pandemic. I guess Johnson will be issuing his apology at the next PMQ.
Blame shedding the prime aim of the inept government. They can't say they're following the science having ignored the SAGE advice re a lockdown and other critical interventions. It stretches back to Cheltenham, Liverpool vs Atletico, the Rugby, stopping test and trace development with gung ho handshaking Johnson belittling the threat of the virus. Accountability reality and truth have no part in this regime's MO. If this causes offence to tory supporters good, it is intended.
The test and trace system so far has cost £12 billion. That is more than the entire budget for General Practice. It doesn’t work because the people in charge have no qualifications or experience in healthcare, and Dido Harding’s only qualification is that she is married to a Conservative MP. As this Guardian piece points out (apologies if already posted), even the operatives at the sharp end of test and trace often don’t have the qualifications their job description demands, because of poor recruitment and management practices handed down from above: https://www.theguardian.com/comment...kw-ynKPGGP5WsSNc5JzGlUexXCjI8fOdZ1YSNLaUMJgCM This goes way beyond party politics, so I make no apologies for posting it on here. If there were a Labour or Green Party government, I would still be calling them out on this. This level of ineptitude is threatening the very safety of everyone in this country. Whatever your politics, please at least question why we are in this totally avoidable mess.
Not only have the government been ignoring the advice put forward by SAGE, they have also been ignoring the evidence that local NHS is better at tracking down people.
There are lots of people feel the same. Me included. I’ve had tough time work wise (although I am extremely grateful I still have work). Make sure you talk to someone. No matter how awkward that may make you feel. It won’t once you’ve done it.
Criminal negligence? https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...virus-contact-tracing-opportunity-experts-say
Are you alright? Simple question, needs to be asked. Now isn't the time for stiff upper lips and reactance, the government(s) can only be relied on to come up short.
