There was a lovely tribute on R4 just now from Bob Wilson, who played with Nobby for England Schoolboys, before he later turned Scottish. They were lifelong friends, and Wilson related a tale Nobby had told him from just before the semifinal in 66 against Portugal, when Alf Ramsey gave Nobby the role of keeping Eusebio quiet. “I want you to mark him”, said Alf. “Do you understand me?” “Aye boss” replied the toothless one, “For life, or just for the game?” RIP Nobby.
