This week in my digs we're having a "Come dine with me" competition - something to relieve the boredom.

Last night I made sweet chilli chicken pasta - recipe available on request - served with garlic flatbread. It went down a storm, and the overly large portions were devoured, so well chuffed. We then cobbled up a pud of custard, ice cream and brownies (I'm sorry Stan if this offends you <laugh>).

Tonight one of the housemates is making chicken fajitas, from scratch - high hopes for a decent meal. Followed by doughnuts, and possibly custard!

What, you missed out the yorkies? Don’t they go with everything, especially pasta?

Cream poured on ice cream where it freezes into a solid shell is the food of the gods.

Home, and treated to a takeaway from the restaurant that jnr is doing deliveries for..... Spicy hot wings and haloumi fries for starter, and mains of garlic chilli chicken with garlic naan for me, white bean ragout, couscous and shredded beef for the Mrs. Lovely! Washed down with some ice cold Moretti - even more lovely <cheers>

Just to demonstrate the low level of influence I have on my children, my daughter and her 7 housemates are roasting two chickens for their lunch tomorrow. With ‘all the trimmings’ - stuffing, bread sauce, cauliflower cheese....and yorkies. She told me shamefacedly, anticipating my response. Her excuse - ‘we are poor students and can’t afford lots of meat, so we are filling up on the trimmings’.

Slow cooked brisket for us tomorrow, with a mountain of mash cooked with garlic and with cream and cheddar added. Deserves a rich red to accompany.

Apparently the chicken/yorkies combo went down a treat. Heathens.

I forgot how long it takes to get the brisket to disintegration melt in the mouth stage, so might be on second bottle of Cote du Rhône by the time we are eating it. Oh dear.

That’s a form of toad in the hole and therefore acceptable to the committee. See the first post in this thread.

    Wow you eat early.

Depends where I am, usually, nowadays, about 7-7.30. Usually followed by a dog walk about 9 to aid digestion. Not tonight though, the fireworks really upset him. Oddly, when the kids were small, we’d feed them, get them to bed and then eat ourselves, so it was much later. And before kids there was no shape on it at all as far as I can remember.

When I’m working in the US it’s usually in Indianapolis, and when I go out for dinner with locals we are usually eating by 5.30, which feels distinctly odd. They are early to bed in the mid west.

My little brother has lived in Spain for 25 years and has gone native. Doesn’t eat, even at home, until gone 10.00, which I can handle for a couple of days, but it gets on my nerves because I am usually pissed before we eat, because the beer/wine drinking starts with a trip to the bar for tapas about 5.00.

    What about you?

    10pm?
I'm normally asleep and or sleeping walking to the dunny to have my first piss for the night.

Mrs Squat and l enjoyed hand shaved potato slices done on the BBQ, along with some marinated eye fillet & fried crumb zucchini.
Of course,l was forced to have the customary Roku G & T whilst slaving over the hot BBQ plate.
