Purely a semantic point but there is no such thing as a Free Trade Deal. No country in the world has such a thing. The EU has no such thing. The United Kingdom has no such thing. Free Trade would simply be let things come and go just like it did centuries ago before politicians got involved.

More total fantasies from the resident left-wing WUM, incapable of understanding such revolutionary concepts as freedom of choice. He has absolutely no chance whatsoever of substantiating any of the nonsense in those two sentences because he does not have two brain cells to rub together.

Doesn't free trade mean free from tariffs? Showing my ignorance again

That is why there are no Free Trade Deals. Every single “deal” on the planet contains exclusions. Things that each party to the agreement wants to protect from external competitors who can supply the same product but cheaper (or in some cases better). We just did a big deal with Japan but ultimately much of it is the EU-Japan deal retouched to remove stuff that neither the UK nor Japan is bothered about.

The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) would not exist if there was actual free trade. Of course many European nations would have a serious problem with free trade. Imagine countries that traded heavily in wines allowing the ‘New World’ countries to flood Europe (pun intended) with cheaper wines. Consumers might decide that they quite like Australian, South African or South American wine. In January, we could choose to have zero tariffs on wine, so we could still get plonk from across the Channel, but Australian wine would drop the EU thirty per cent tariff and they might sell more here. Of course, the problem with unilaterally dropping tariffs is that British wine exports would still get clobbered. So deals are theoretically needed.

Facts not in evidence. Died “with” coronavirus, not necessarily “from” coronavirus.

Welsh rugby legend J.J. Williams also died today.

    "
The new measures, which come into force on Friday, will mean people have to stay in their homes except to buy essential goods, seek medical attention, or use their daily one-hour allocation of exercise.

Cafes, restaurants and shops will shut down unless they are deemed to be selling essential goods, such as supermarkets and pharmacies.

People will still be allowed to go to work if their employer deems it impossible for them to do the job from home, Macron said.

"Like last spring, you will be able to leave your home only for work, for a doctor's visit, to help a relative, do essential shopping or go out shortly for air," the French president added.

Anyone outside their home will need to carry a written statement justifying their presence outside. "

We are not allowed out of our province and three of our major cities in Andalusia are in total lockdown. I know its not a major thing in the great scheme of things but we are due to go to Seville on Sunday to collect our new puppy weimerarner but are now not allowed. We lost our dog to cancer earlier this year and were so looking forward to this new arrival.
We are also not allowed to cross the bridge into Portugal this weekend. It is All Saints this weekend and Portugals authorities are demanding no weekend travel between towns for four days.

When I got to Nairobi a month back I started to watch Breaking Bad in the evening as there was a 9pm then 10pm curfew. Just finished all episodes, superb show.
Might start on The Crown next or Peaky Blinders.

How frustrating, only 75 mins away. Would you be stopped if you went earlier? We have to carry a signed note saying where we are going and why but the chances are, if you pick your time you won't get stopped. Say you"re going to pick up your dog from the vets. They can only send you back

What great leadership being shown in France.

Meanwhile Johnson is like a rabbit caught in the headlights. Completely out of his depth.
The worst and weakest Prime Minister in British political history.

****. I would be straight down to the mayor and ask them if they can give me a permission to just go and pick up your pup. No mingling, stay in car and owners pass pup to you via long lead and straight back home.

I have to admit i had to google the breed. Stunning looking animal. Sorry to hear about your dog. Me and the wife would love to get a dog but we both work full time and are out of the house for over 10 hours a day (under normal circumstances that is) and wouldn't be fair to leave a dog alone for so long. Hopefully in a few more years when my kids are a little older (they're 7 and 4) and can take on some of the responsibility we might be able to get one.
