    I think that was just something the local rags ran with here. All he said when he signed for Real S was it was close to Osasuna which is his home and that was good. The reality is according to reports is his dad is his rep and he felt Benitez had not been good to his word on game time. Supposedly his dad held reservations about coming here in the first place. How true any of that is who knows, but sounds more realistic than the old homesick routine.

    I think we all know he found Mo Diame playing ahead of him as a bit insulting, and there were regular reports of him getting frustrated and going to see Rafa.

    Thauvin was troublesome and you can't really blame Rafa. For sure he could have massaged that ego, but he did tell us three times he had no interest in signing for Newcastle. The fact we carried on is a problem on the clubs scouting team more than anything.

    We should have done more to make Merino feel wanted, played him more and got him to sign a new contract without a release. Our midfield is now crying out for his quality.
