Could be a thorny problem, would the idea fall on stony ground?

I think the only ones who wouldn't get heated are the agnostics and the atheists. The actual believers would fight like cats & dogs IMO.

Though the atheists may have an issue too - I had many an argument convincing people that Father Christmas isn't real.

Might be a case of casting pearls before swine.

Atheists can be a pretty pugnacious bunch. Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens being two that come to mind.

It has been said that God loves atheists because they never stop talking about him.

Does that mean Trump is a socialist and does the poisonous character assassination of Corbyn by the Times, Telegraph, Mail and Express make them Socialist newspapers? And how would you describe Johnson's disgraceful attacks on Kier at PMQ? He never answers a question but bluffs his way out of a corner by hurling insults and turning to encourage his members to start baying and cheering.

Sweeping generalisations of people's behaviour is never a wise thing to do. So how about this one. Tories are always blind or deaf to an alternative view of the world as they are stuck in their own bigoted narrow minded view of society..

    Reincarnation.
I would love it if that was a reality, especially if the likes of Johnson, Gove, Patel, Mogg et al were, upon death, immediately reincarnated into the poorest families, and have to live with the aftermath of their political decisions.
The cherry on the cake would be that they would grow up knowing who and what they were in their previous lives.

I'm not sure you read my post properly, I didn't make any sweeping generalisations, I am simply stating that my experience is that I see personal attacks more often from socialists and those on the left.

I read articles across the spectrum and I see a lot of newspapers regularly publishing bias personal attacks on conservatives.

I'm a Latter Day Dudist. We can't really be bothered to get involved in religion.

I am quite happy living with the sure and certain knowledge that this is all there is.

    Religion. IMHO.

EDIT: Let me qualify this. I call myself a Catholic Atheist. Culturally I am Catholic, ethically I am an a Atheist.

I believe in following the principles laid out in the bible (love thy neighbour, thou shall not steal, kill etc). But that is just being a good person and I don't need a Santa Claus to believe in. Having an Italian mother I had Catholicism rammed down my throat, and culturally I cant change it, but ethically I can.

EDIT2: But each to their own, If belief gives you joy and inner peace so be it. My son-in-law's mother is soooo religious and when she had cancer 3 or 4 years ago her belief got her through it. I think it is the power and will of the human mind that helped (as well as science), but her belief made her alive today. I'm not knocking it, but just not for me.

EDIT3: (This is becoming an Ian post in its length). Funny though, I call myself an Atheist, but on my 50th Birthday I found myself in Positano and went into the Church (well it is in the money shots of the views so thought I would go and see what it was like inside). I even kneeled down, lit a candle and said a few short words of thanks to my late mother. Life is funny sometimes.

Hamlet: “There are more things in heaven and earth Horatio, than are dreamed of in thy philosophy.”

I would never assume “sure and certain knowledge” of any subject under the sun, myself. But if you are happy in your sureness and certainty, fair enough.

Being an atheist, funnily enough, takes as much faith as being a theist.

That’s not actually a joke, by the way, though it does sort of read like one!
