We were the better team IMHO, 5 reasonable chances, Semyeno should have hit the target with his 1st chance, keeper made a great save from his 2nd chance, Kalas had a header cleared off of the line and Diedhiou denied by a great Lloyd Kelly block, nearly forgot a Diedhiou missed a header (came off his shoulder) should have done better. Bentley hasn't had a save to make. Over complicating at times in our build up and our crossing needs to improve. But overall looking good.
Out without a wimper, poor game, did Bournemouth deserve to win? No, did we deserve to win? No, not enough quality in 2nd half, Hunt shocking tonight, oh well Norwich up next
As good as we were in the first half we were poor in the second. Paterson and ODowda were ok in the first but particularly poor in second, Paterson couldn't pass water and was always weak in the tackle, ODowda was hiding for me in the second half and his awful weak clearance set up the move for their goal, which found Hunt out of position. If either keep their place in the starting 11 on Saturday I would be amazed. Paterson has been poor for 4 games running now and I still ask myself why did we bust such a gut to keep hold of ODowda? The pluses Vyner was superb tonight, he has got to play Bakinson and Brunt in midfield, anything else is far too weak, Nagy might be an option in the Paterson role. Disappointed but we had first half chances and needed to take at least one of them.
Decent first half, dreadful second....passing dreadful and not just from Paterson, Vyner our only decent player IMO...same old same old..
You are correct but Paterson was by far the worst, 4 poor games and 4 games without a win, in the last 10 minutes or so I suspect he gave the ball away once every minute. Nowhere near good enough.
He was towards the end, but thought he played ok up until the last 20 mins....Just thought the whole team looked clueless in the 2nd half as if playing for the draw. Not sure why Brunt was brought on before Martin or Wells..strange one.....like I said before, I'm not sure where the points are coming from with the next few games..
The result I sort of expected. The next 2 games against Norwich at home and Huddersfield away don't look easy either and after that we have the following Cardiff A Derby H Watford H Reading A
Holden is being hung out to dry. 1 - by the Board with no backing and Tbf made worse by Covid. 2 - He inherited a poor squad now made worse by injuries. 3 - Injuries have meant changes again last night, the poor sod's saving grace of selection and set up is blown away. I wish him luck.
Facebook went into meltdown last night. And I suspect some we know on here will be dusting off theirs sheets ready.
Definitely feel there has been a massive overreaction to last night's performance. We were decent, dare I say it, even good at times. It might be Bournemouth but they were just relegated from the Premier League and had some big names in that team last night. On another day we sneak that 1-0 ourselves.
Lee Johnson singles out Bristol City players for praise Former Bristol City manager Lee Johnson singled out Tyreeq Bakinson and Antoine Semenyo for praise when appearing on EFL on Quest earlier this week. The Robins have stuttered a little bit in recent weeks in the Sky Bet Championship but are still in the top six and will be eager to make the play-offs this season after missing out on more than one occasion under former boss Johnson. He was commenting after their defeat to Bournemouth in the Championship last night, then, and reserved special praise for two of the club’s younger players who impressed even if the final result was not what they would have wanted. He said: “I thought they were very good first half and it was great to see as the previous manager to see young players that have been developed by the club in the form of Tyreeq Bakinson and Antoine Semenyo playing extremely well.” The Verdict The Robins have brought through some good young players in recent years and are reaping the rewards at the moment with a handful of them involved in the first-team. The Robins have had a good squad for a while now but it’s all about getting over the line for them this season, as they try and make it to the Premier League. Dean Holden is now the man tasked with helping them achieve that, then, and he’ll be looking to snap them out of this brief lull in form after starting the campaign firmly on the front foot https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/lee-johnson-singles-out-bristol-city-players-for-praise/
Sorry I always look at that as an excuse, people saying things like "Swansea are a good side I would have taken a point before kick off" or "they've just been relegated from the prem" and when we fail to beat teams like Barnsley "anybody can beat anybody in this league" so what?, the rules seem to change for us and excuses trotted out, they were no great shakes and beatable and 2nd half we were incredibly poor, we missed a hatful of chances in the first half, they had one good chance all game and took it. We seem to be back to groundhog day IMHO.
First half we looked quite sharp TBO, second half, we didn't turn up what so ever.....Still don't understand DH's first sub! We were lucky it was only 1-0 with them hitting the post and our dreadful passing............it's the game I saw
Not sharp enough when it came to taking one of the 5 chances we created in the first half. We stopped our high press and a midfield that competed ok in the first half morphed into the pathetically weak midfield in the second. The first substitution should have been made 5 minutes into the 2nd half not after 78 minutes, it was obvious that the midfield power had shifted even after 5 minutes, after 78 minutes it was far too late to be effective.
Seems obvious, but as well as we played in the first half it was then that we lost it, you have to score when you play that well and create so many chances, had we done that I believe it would have been a completely different result .
But it wasn't a different result and symptomatic of our team over recent seasons, we either create nothing (as in no shots on target) and lose or cannot convert the chances we do create and lose. Interspersed with wins against the odds, usually when our midfield operates like a midfield should.
