Yet this statistics are better than Max Power who’s seemingly avoiding all blame. And he’s the captain!!

Hmm, i usually find sports stats useful..

However in golf atm there is a vogue for 'shots gained' (now I should confess stats etc is something I have used most of my professional life). However sometimes reams of figures are produced just because they are possible, and if anything they obscure not illuminate. In golf, the most important is obviously shots taken, helpful to understand that is fairways found, greens in regulation, putts taken and up and downs. Most other stats like the 'shots gained' compared with other players are imho do not add a great deal, compared to the basic ones.

If football similarly the main key most important stat is goals for and against, the rest of the stats are really just trying to explain how the key metric was arrived at.

For me in understanding goals for, is chances created, shots on and off target. One that does get much airing would be players in box when a cross comes in.
Goals against, keeper saves, defensive block and tackles.
Possession, imho, is not that key...as a side that can counter attack has more chance of scoring than a side whose possession stats are from their own half and midfield.

In rugby a good stat is how many visits to the opposition 22 and points scored... in football that could be visits to opposition third and chances/goals. Number if corners won imho is a better indicator than possession indicating dominance.

Well what has all this to do with dear young Dobby (its a pity that he has not inherited some of the magical genes from his distant cousin Dobby in Harry Potter).

Well from watching his performance on SAFCSEE, he had a shocker of a game. Being there at the match would have been better to get a more complete opinion. However if the stats produced indicate he played well.. frankly the stats are bollocks.

If someone comes to you with a business proposition, if his figures and stats show that the profits are unbelievable... that is what they are unbelievable... do not touch that business with a barge pole.

Never buy a player on dodgy stats... if a striker goals scored are good. But always have them watched by a good and proven scout.

Don't think anyone's claiming he played well, my point is that I don't agree with him being slated as the worst CM we've ever had when in fact Power routinely is worse. Not saying we should blame him either but it ain't all Dobson's fault that's for sure.

No not the worst ever and he has played better...just a very bad day at the office for him Tuesday?

I do wonder also about the system we are playing.

Currently with 3 at the back and with Hume and 09 as wingbacks, say Dobby and power CMs (mostly DMs mind). Gooch and Maguire out wide, lone striker Wyke.

We have 4 so called stikers, 3 usually on the bench..but I wonder if it would not be better to go the more usual 4 4 2.
Two CBs, 09 and Hume FBs

Then yes Maguire and Gooch midfielders on the outside. My guess Power and Dobson etc would be more comfortable with that and play better. Could bring in young'uns easier as well.

i keep saying this but any confidence the lad had/has will soon be wiped out by throwing him and power together plus parky's 'tactics'.

needs a spell in the U23's and brought on as sub in games we are in control, much like onien did, he seems to be trying too hard (at one point he chased a ball right back into their penalty area getting nowhere near it as they passed it and ended way out of position)...power i have no clue, dont think he gave the ball away as much and at least has a shot on him but another of our midfield that cannot impose himself in games.

Honestly think he'd be OK alongside Leadbitter. He'd manage him much better than Power (or Parkinson!!) does. If he starts those 2 for any league game in the future then he should be shot with ****.

BUT!!!! He seems stubborn as hell. "Bollocks to those who think they can see it better than me" style!

Certain posters say he's worse! I'm not sure I've seen a worse CM than Whitley - there again, same poster also seems to have completely forgotten about our 3 GKs from the championship!! All of which were worse than Burge!

If Sanderson or Diamond can play RB then I'd go with this setup

    Burge

    Sanderson Willis Wright Hume

    Maguire Dobson O'Nien Gooch

    Wyke Kimpioka

Could also leave Dobson out for Leadbitter and introduce him as old Grant gets tired

I'd agree, but it looks like he was always battling a party lifestyle and when he left us cocaine took hold and he lost everything...

Jason Steele is the worst Sunderland goalkeeper I've ever seen in my lifetime, just slightly ****ter than Lee Camp.

    4-4-2 - are you stupid? Parkinson doesn't do 4-4-2!

Sad isn't it! We are perfectly set up for something like that. Kimpioka is showing exactly what SAFC have been missing and doing exactly what he needs to to get into the team. Scoring goals for fun at U23s doesn't make him an instant hit at our level but it'd be nice for him to be given a chance. He's totally unpredictable and, TBH, I have never really been that impressed with him. But if you sign a player after letting his contract expire then don't play him, what's the point?

I know I almost can't be arsed talking about the team because you know it's going to be the same old same old under Parky, especially the formation. Waste of words.

I stuck Kimpi in there for his form, pace and wildcard factor, I haven't really got a clue how good he'd be. Seems like he might have matured a bit since he last had a crack at the first team.
