You may have a point there St. L, along with an elephantine memory which(witch) recalls any slight, real or imaginary, back to prehistoric times.

40 years ago the very lovely Mrs Godders:emoticon-0115-inlov made a vegetable curry for supper. When we had finished she asked me if I liked it. That is when it became dangerous. I didn't like it and had to tell her as I don't think I could eat it if she cooked it again. I obviously hurt her feelings because forty years later whenever we have a curry she always says "You don't need to worry it isn't vegetable curry". 40 bloody years later and she still remembers the night when I said her curry was bloody awful.

I`m not having a dig at anyone. I`m merely making an observation, based on my experience with people socially and at work.

I would contend then that they should put together more cogently argued cases. The classic example is Brexit. The average Brexiteer can only trot out some Daily Express headline and say that they want their own laws and a blue passport. If you press them on this most say that they don't want to argue but they have their opinion and they are entitled to it. My contention is that unless you can put up some kind of logical case for that opinion then you are certainly not entitled to it.

I have seen various posts on here and the “True Politics Thread” talking about the number of people that no longer post on here, some of which have suggested that they have stopped posting because of that thread.
Is there any substance to this, or is it supposition?

That's a bloody good question. Let's ask them. Oh ...

There is anecdotal evidence it seems. The only poster I know who stopped did so for reasons nothing to do with the quality of debate. Isn't this at the heart of political debate? Someone says "I know someone who said that their mate ..." and suddenly it become generalised.

I am saddened that Beddy is no longer a mod, and equally that he feels that those with 'unacceptable' views give up. I personally love political debate with someone I disagree with. Talking to people I agree with is quite pleasant for a while, but then gets boring. But then I have no friends locally who support Saints and am used to debating football with Evertonians (Reds fans are useless as they no nothing!). MODS please note link back to football!

I also have no interest in cricket and have never read the cricket thread.

Would I gain credibility by saying I am leaving because I don't like the cricket thread and if you want me to stay you must delete it?

    Of course not.

I don't believe for one moment that anyone has stopped posting or visiting this board because of the politics thread.

If they have then they are petulant in the extreme and certainly not worth worrying about.

Actually, 7 days seems far too long for this thread to continue. I’ll give it until the weekend, but please try and stay on the subject.

I would hasten to declare my Resignation had nothing to do with the politics thread. Just to make sure people understand that.
As a poster mentioned we have lost a few posters and while I agree some left because of the political thread and there can be no denying that...... However from my experience the vast majority left for other reasons including some that did not like doing anything else but discussing football matters.
I have to remind people sometimes though if that is their reason and is their choice, then that is their right and should not be criticised for making that choice. Its a free world......or so they tell me.....:1980_boogie_down:

Edit.............. There is about 20 others who look at the thread but rarely post. Maybe we should be trying to persuade them to join in the discussions. What say you????

I joked earlier but the "should we close the politics thread" has now become a 2nd politics thread

Shall we have 1 politics thread for genuine debate and another just for arguing and insulting each other - problem solved <laugh><laugh>

I think a religious thread on here would die a natural death within days if it was permitted. Could try it under the banner, "Thought of the day." I always enjoyed listening to the wisdom of Rabbi Lionel Blue and the Sikh guy.
