The Chairboys have failed to score in five of those games, netting just two goals in total. Watford head into Tuesday’s contest seeking their fifth win and clean sheet of the season. The Hornets have conceded just three goals in their seven league outings thus far. Wycombe will have known the enormity of the task ahead of them at the beginning of the season but will have hoped for a better start than what they have experienced so far. Their defensive frailties, which have seen them concede a Championship-high 15 goals so far, again let them down against Norwich as they conceded late on, having looked set to gain their first point of the season. please log in to view this image Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth is still hopeful that his side can avoid the drop despite looking desperately off the pace in the majority of games played this season, and he will hope to conjure an inspired home performance from his team on Tuesday night. The Hornets were cruelly denied all three points against fellow promotion favourites Bournemouth at the weekend after Chris Mepham cancelled out Stipe Perica’s opener in the fifth minute of stoppage time, but Vladan Ivic’s charges are expected to respond in the right way here. Watford’s attitude and commitment has been undeniable since their relegation from the Premier League and their performances have consistently reflected this. Ivic’s side have 14 points on the board having lost just one of their first seven Championship games. please log in to view this image Team News No information as yet. From Watford on this Day book: 26 September 1903 In the 35 games over 12 months since the clubs previous clean sheet Watford broke their hoodoo in style with a 9-0 win over Wycombe Wonders in the Second Division of the Southern League. Harry Barton scored 6 of the goals as the club progressed towards an undefeated league title. My italics. it would be nice to have a repeat of this.
Gray and Hughes both available... https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...ndre-gray-will-hughes-back-wycombe-wanderers/
Nice of Wycombe to post this little memory for us... https://www.wycombewanderers.co.uk/news/2020/october/flashback-watford-wallop-wycombe/ I'm not sure that the author has this bit correct though - Back then, in the Amateur game, fans would change ends at half time, this was not allowed in the professional game, so we had to get a good place in the ground to view the match. I suspect it may have had more to do with the large crowd in attendance - this match pre-dates me and I know I spent my first couple of seasons at The Vic changing ends at half time.
There was gate at the entrance to the enclosure in front of the old wooden Shrodells stand which they opened at halftime.
I can remember being able to change ends at most games if there was not a large crowd This ended in our first season in the Second Division with GT when Wet Spam fans (who else?) ran riot in both end nearly causing the game to be called off after we went ahead Larger crows on a more regular basis meant it was not possible to change ends easily anyway
I have been looking for a stream with little luck, hopefully one will appear but all links will be very welcome please.
“This is the most difficult game. Lots of times these are tougher games than when you play the first or second team in the league. We respect Wycombe. They have a good team. They are without points, but I've watched a lot of their games and this is a team who play direct football, who fight and work for 95 minutes. Some games they deserve more than they get in three or four games.” The boss is expecting a tough test at Adams Park this evening
