If it wasn’t for VAR ****baggery against Newcastle and the West Ham debacle then we’d pretty much be top I think. I know that wasn’t the greatest watch but Burnley are a very difficult team to play against and their game plan was spot on. Make no mistake that’s a big 3 points for us. Clean sheet too let’s not forget.
Fought hard, never pretty, but they never ever just lie down, actually thought that our much mailigned centre backs did ok, other than 1 brainfart by Dier that he got away with. I would give Kane MOTM too, but Ndombele ran him close I thought he was most creative player on the pitch and put in a good shift, both Lamela and Lo Celso did well as subs. Son was quiet but it was a fabulous header.
When Liverpool win like this the pundits say its the sign of a great team when you win when playing badly. I've never really believed that. However, lets see if they say it about us.
That was a tough game - difficult to play away at Burnley on a Monday evening. Lloris did well with those corners at the end...phew.
Tangent time... What the last couple of league games demonstrate is that our midfield has issues as it's easy to predict Creativity: Lo Celso, Ndombele Physicality: Hojbjerg, Sissoko Keeping the ball: Winks If a team sits back they negate what Lo Celso/Ndombele can do, and that becomes a problem as Winks and Sissoko tend to make percentage plays - and those don't amount to anything but a padded possession stat and a stagnant shots on target stat What our midfield needs is players who can do more than one thing, for example how Scott Parker could win the ball but also keep hold of it, or how Dembele could keep hold of it but also had physicality, or Huddlestone had physicality but could also ping the ball 30 yards down the pitch to feet, because that makes us less predictable for teams to set up against
Ugly win but who cares, how many times have we had all the possession and come away with nothing Rest up the team and bring on Brighton , another side who will play like Burnley
You obviously haven't watched Brighton recently. Potterball is nothing like Dyche. They play open attacking football.
Jose was not willing for us to play more attacking-he didn't want to lose. His method of draw away and win at home. He was considering bringing on Vinny which would give us something different . Once he and Bale settle in , I think you will see more of them coming on to change such a game.
Hard fought...hard earned...hope Burnley go down...wasting time after half n hour fun stat PL most successful strike partnership is Lampard/Drogba with 38 goals...Kane/Son are on 29
Catching up on the comments it’s like some of you think this should have been a walk in the park Burnley had no ambition tonight and came for the point at best and it showed in their game I’ll take 1-0 with satisfaction...sometimes we have to graft and it’s no surprise that was the case against Burnley
I disagree. Burnley tried to do a job on us and it nearly worked. They were disciplined, shut down virtually every attempt to get in behind them and created a few chances. Dyche set them up to get all three points and I think his delayed use of subs might've stopped him getting them. They weren't just there to nick a point.
I remember the commentator first remarking on their goalkeeper time wasting on the half hour mark. By default their only option left to attack was on the break since they seemed camped in their own half. either way...we earned that win
Yeah we got lucky tonight. We played too much into their hands rather than actually trying to implement our strengths on the game. They had more shots and more shots on target. We never actually tested Pope and it took for a bit of ingenuity from Kane and Son from a set piece to win us the game.
Burnley use timewasting to disrupt the opposition's flow. It's not just running down the clock, like some teams. Their main scoring opportunities are always going to be on the break and from set-pieces against sides like us. Dyche will be furious that they conceded from one.
Agree, winning ugly is a hard thing to do and in the past Spurs have failed to do it. The game won’t live long in the memory but 3 important points
